most people say the answer is no due to the complexity of sensors, etc, etc. the answer is in one of the 4th gen FAQs.

however, i just picked up an auto climate control unit off Ebay for a steal and will give it a shot in a couple weeks. i'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes. and if it doesn't work, i'll have a good deal on an auto-climate control unit for sale.

dude that is the exact one i was looking at hahah. you bastard you bought my climate controller! but in any case ill have to go thru the faq again i didnt see it last time. if its that cheap i might as well get one too and try it out, i dont see why it will not work as even teh manual controls are all electrical swtiches and this unit looks like it will just plug in. i guess come back and post a reply once it does in this thread!

i wondered the same thing and found its not like a direct plug in like i thought you need 4 sensors one on the dash i think is for the outside temperature control and the rest on different colant lines under the hood and what not like they said check out the faq it goes into a lot of detail about it

Let me find the thread but there was a guy who was selling the entire kit to convert from manual to auto. Let me look and I will report back.

Update: I cant find it but the guy was offering everything needed to convert but I believe no 4th gen has ever completed it. But it required alot of sodering and wiring.

Here the closest I can find but it not worth it.

I think we'll be seeing that item reposted on ebay in a couple of weeks then.

Seriously, anything that is manually actuated right now, such as your air flow control doors and the recirc/fresh air door, is now going to be motor actuated. So you'll need the new actuators, sensors (outside temp sensor, inside temp sensor, solar sensor) and all wiring.

Defo not worth it in my opinion.

Yeah I agree, and I have the auto climate control. More things to go wrong! I'd just as soon have the manual control system.

Dont waste your time or money, i am constantly having to manually overide my climate control because it does not keep the car at a constant comfortable temp.

The auto climate control is kind of pointless anyways. You can set it to 21C, for example. Now if its 40C it won't turn on the AC full blast even at first, just enough to reach 21.

During the winter, if its set to 21, and its -40, well its just going to blow 21 degree air out which will take forever to warm up the car if at all. I have to crank it to 30C, then when i notice its way to hot turn it back down to 21 until next time. Plus, it has a habit of waiting for a couple minutes after start up than cranking the fan up to maximum before the engine has even warmed up so it blows freezing cold air at your feet, hence i need to over ride that as well, until the engine warms up then i have to crank it up and crank it down manually later. Repeat process every time the car is started. Maybe these issues were fixed in later models, but as far as im concerned there is really nothing automatic about it, and its not worth getting.

you're probably right...it will probably be back on Ebay. but i've been hearing people talk about it ever since I joined maxima.org and have never heard from anyone who actually tried it.

like i've said before though...i'm not trying to convert to a completely automatic system. i don't have any of the sensors. i want to see if it will control the fan speed, temp, etc. make sense??

i'll post my results in 2 weeks.

If you would swap the climate from auto to manual, would the "auto" button still function correctly? I mean, when on auto it starts to blow air once the engine is warmed up, with the manual one you have to look when the temp goes up and turn it on yourself. Any thoughts?

i have no idea of course...but i figure the auto button won't do anything. i don't see how it could without all the other 'auto' equipment.

well i got the auto climate control unit in the mail today. considering the cost it looks very good. the worst wear is on the temp up and down buttons. a little armor all and she'll be all good.

the countdown till vacation is one week. i'm going to swap out my old Bose, try the new climate control, and finally fix my dang knock sensor.
