Dipstick covered in oil? WTF

Just came upstrairs from checking my oil and tranny fluid. My engine oil dipstick is completley covered in oil. I mean its soaked. I let the engine get to operating temp before checking but I doubt that can make that big of a diff. Recently when ive been starting the car the oil light flashes real quick after the initail start up. Car runs good I dont know what this could mean.

when the car is running the dipstick get covered in oil, this is normal, let the car sit a while and then check your oil.

try checkin it again but after u wipe it off put the dipstick back in and then pull it out quickly... it might just be oil that the dipstick scrapes of the inside of the tube... u go fast enough and it wont get any of that... if thats not it and ur oil is actualy overfull then it could be a number of things... but try that first

I check it after a night of sitting. Right after you turn the motor off all the oil needs to leak down into the pan. Of Course your dipstick is going to be covered, it flows by it

You need to pull it out, wipe it off, put it back in and then pull it back out and check it. Also I have found out that no maxima I have ever checked to have a accurate dipstick. I've had a friend at an express lube place tell me the same thing.

What i do is run the engine, pull out the dipstick, wipe it, leave it out for 5-10minutes so the oil can drain back down then isert it back in for a reading. Works pretty good.

You are turning the engine off right? And you need to let it sit for a while for all the oil to drain back down. Listen to what matty said, that the best thign to do.
