buying a bad car is buying a bad car......it's outside of lemon law statues already I expect?
don't take what the stealership says your car is worth personally, they aren't in business to help you.
do you owe on the car? and how much did you pay?

Why did you buy a salvaged car in the first place?

Your just asking for problems.

Salvage
A Salvage title is assigned to a vehicle that has been declared a total loss resulting from Fire, Vandalism, Collision, Theft, Flood or other occurrence. Salvage titles are further broken down into two categories:

Repairable
A Repairable Salvage title is assigned to a vehicle that has been salvaged but can be repaired. This title requires a sub-brand of Fire, Vandalism, Collision, Theft or Flood.
Parts-Only
A Parts-Only Salvage title is assigned to a vehicle that can only be sold as parts due to excessive damage. The vehicle can never be re-titled or re-registered. A Parts-Only title does not require a sub-brand and is labeled with a junk status.

Make sure you do as much research as you can and fully look over the 350z before you buy it.

You overpaid and got a salvage car, 2 grand for a trade is fair, not like they want the car anyway. They always lowball you on the trade in unless its a year old or so, sell it yourself. Make sure you know what your buying next time and be prepared for problems with a salvage. Just because it was in the body shop for a month, means nothing, atleast 50% of that time was waiting for parts.

Yeah I regret buying my maxima now. It was too good to be true. The inside and outside was perfect however I think the stealership knew the car had mechanical problems. So when I bought it I took it to Nissan and yes they found a whole crap load of things which the stealership I bought it from fixed for free but now the transmission blew on it so yeah I think they knew that something was going to die early on the car which is why they sold it to me for so cheap.

On my second, my 96 was still going like new with 160k, now my 97 feels like new with almost 110k. No regrets at all. Only reason I traded my 96 in for my 97 was the manual.

I bought my max salvaged as well. I buy cars this way simply because you save a lot of money. $5800 is a hell of a lot for a salvaged max, even for 59K miles. I was able to purchase a WRX salvaged for about $1800, and probably would've put in $1000 or a little more into it to get it up and running. But, it had some other problems so I sold it. But, this was about 3 years ago, when people didn't know about insurance auctions I bought my max from auction for about $1600 I think, and about $1400 for parts, which comes to $3000 on the car. It's in my sig, you can also check out my Cardomain to see what it looked like before it was fixed. Although mine has 136K miles, but runs very smooth for so many miles. Luckily the previous owner took good care of it. Basically just try to work with it. Try to get all those things fixed, one by one. You did know that buying a salvaged car is sort of like gambling didn't you? You can buy yourself a car that has low miles, little damage, and then find out you need to change the whole engine. This happened to me in my Cadillac STS, needed to buy 2 motors for that pos. Anyway buying a salvaged car is risky, but just remember that you buy a car that has problems with it, so I mean, you get what you get. Next time just buy one that isn't salvaged for advice. Now try to work with it.

That's a lot of miles for it, I have 1997 Maxima GLE and I have only 85,500 miles. How many miles did you drive annually and did you get your car new?

Either you were very naive, or genuinely ignorant of the potential problems coming with a salvage title.
Salvage cars freak me out. I got a job with - well that's irrelevant - in San Antonio, and was given a Caddy to drive around. It drove like a chocolate donkey. Later the idiot told me that it was a salvage, and it had been made from the front end of one car welded around the middle to the back end of another. Such cars break apart when involved in accidents.
Comparing your price, my 96GLE has never been in an accident and I paid about $600 less than you did, and Maximas cost more over here. The mileage is about 75K perhaps, not high exactly. And it runs fine. So even on a non-salvage basis you paid too much IMO. There is such a thing as the Blue Book you know.
Someone else advised you to turn lemons into lemonade. I'm not so sure I would want to invest the time. I think I would cut my losses.

To the thread starter, is it black on black? Did the carfax say what body shop it was in for so long? Is the person who sold it to you affiliated with the shop? All irrelevant now, but if they were connected I would guess they did a bubble gum fix on everything, make it look good, but they would never drive it ya know? Have you taken it to an actual mechanic or have you done all the maintenance yourself? Anything wrecked can be made new again. Have a mechanic check it out, and then get a second opinion. And im guessing its a 5spd because of your name, probably the most sought after combo if it is black on black Might cost you another grand or two to make it perfect, but with 59k the engine will last you along time.

No I dont think the body shop and the crappy dealership are connected in anyway. To the guy that has the purple salvaged max, my car looks just like yours, hoods off in the same spot, grille and light pushed in. Carfax says airbags not used so hopefully it looked like yours. I havent seen pics of the car when it was wrecked. And yes it is black on black leather SE. Automatic though.

I would sell it and buy a clean title car, salvage cars always drive and feel different. An inch off here, another half inch there, and it adds up to alot of problems that are nearly impossible to fix. I don't know any body shops that can get a car perfect, close but not factory fresh.

What was the damage?

I came very close to being scammed when I was looking. A black '98 5speed with 60K for around 5900. Seemed like quite the deal until I ran the VIN (which I had to get while he was inside) and it came back as major accident at 59,XXX miles then a couple months went by and the next entry had only 60K after those few months.

LTU max- what kind of damage did your car have?

Isn't this stuff you should have noticed before you bought the damn car? $2000 is a steal of a deal. You should take it and run. I don't know why you would have paid $5800 for that in the first place when you could get a vehicle with slightly more miles for about the same amount.

My car has a salvage title because it was stolen in VA. It has no damage.
I paid $4300.00 and it had 42,000 miles....
This was december '04....
You definitely got jacked.... I would never buy a salvage title car unless I knew it wasn't because of damage....

My car is even beter, it was salvaged, stripped for parts, was re-built, then TOTALED in a collision, and re-built AGAIN. I have spliced wires EVERWHERE and some of the electronics are a bit messed up. But she still runs great.
