why is the 2000+ maxima intake louder then ours.

so i had a chance today to drive a 2000 5-speed. one thing i noticed is that the intake is slightly louder (yes noticeably) louder then my 97. actually it sounds somewhat like when i had the hacked airbox in my car. I thought it was much nicer then my cars stock sound and the hacked box. Is there a resonator in ours that makes is quiet or is it just the airbox design.

o btw the growl was much better then our cars in low rpms and full throttle all the way up. so i dont think it is the variable manifold

You know, i was wondering that too, i know its the same motor, my friend has a 97 auto and its quieter than my 2001 from 2000 rpms to 5500, he downshifts it and you can hardly hear it, mine is definetly louder- is it the intake?

id say from experience the manifolds are made from diff material i had a 95 and now have 2000 I30. the manifold from the DE-K is made from a resin material while the DE is made from aluminum so id say that would attribute to the noise and also (vais or vias) cant remember will make it sound good to especially at 5k

It sounds different at all rpm's though, like revving a 2k to 6500 and revving a 98 to 6500 sounds different all the way, VI kicks in at 5000. maybe it is because the intake runners are longer anyway.

It's the combo of intake manifold and 00VI your hearing.
It's made of a different material and it's configuration internally is also different.
Makes sense that is sounds different then 4th gens. It IS different then 4th gens.
