how to remove vent trim?

So I just painted my center dash pieces and it looks really naked without the fan vents painted and the door handles. How do I get these off? In the service manual it just showed there being a couple tabs but when i shoved my butter knife in, it didn't hit anything. Do I just keep prying until they pop off?

Also info on removing door handles and window switches would be helpful.

*I looked through all the stickies and didn't find the inof, nor did searching yield anything so I appoloogize in advance if this has been previously answered, Admins, feel free to delete this thread as soon as it has been asnwered.

There are 2 tabs on each side. I used a long flat head screwdriver and that worked pretty well. I never actually felt anything unlatch, I just pried slowly until they popped up.

The vents are kind of fragile because the plastic is very thin, so be careful not to break them.

For the door handles, I assume you mean the cup around the handle itself. It is just held in by snaps (I want to say there are 4, but I may be wrong - it's been a while since I've done this). You will probably need to pull the handle out slightly in order to work the cup off. On a side note, I'd recommend that you not paint the cups. They are very easy to scratch (especially if you ever have any girls with fingernails ride in your car) and they don't look that good in my opinion.

This is a good write-up of how to change the handles with pictures, also shows how to remove the whole door panel.

For the door handle, there is 2 spots you would want to start prying; the top and the bottom of the door handle. There is a plastic hook that holds it in place on the left side of the door handle (assuming you are doing the driver side one, right side if you are doing the passenger).

Looking through the ESM, it shows that there is a screw that holds the vents in. The location of that screw is reachable if you take out the dash.

Unless there is another way, I could be wrong?

The vents pry out easieast from the bottom (below the hazzard light switch). Just pry up and you should be good. The cups are easiest to get to by prying from the top but be gentle cause they break easy. Window switches should be pryed from the back to front. You may want to invest in a trim tool. I got one in my stereo hookup kit and it comes in pretty handy, I don't have to worry about scratching anything.
