Looking to buy 4th Gen

Looking to buy a 98 or 99 4th gen Max. What are some of the common issues with these years? Any major reliablity issues?

Coil packs on the 99's are a problem.

I'm looking at a '99 today and the seller says the coil packs were replaced recently. Should that resolve the issue or were the replacements suspect as well?

From what I've seen its Coil Packs and the engine immobilizer. Good luck on the 4th Gen..I tried to find one, but found a 3rd Gen for 900 bucks. Can't beat that!

From what I've read on reliability reports,, the 98 has been the least problematic of any 4th gen Max. The 98 has the digital odometer and cool red needles, but none of the changes that were made in 99 with emissions and so forth. All in all, find a Max that is in good shape, has been maintained, and ultimately if you feel comfortable with the purchase. Good luck on your 4th Gen quest, let us know how you make out with it.
