Hey guys just wondering if anyone has ever worked with fiberglass at home. Where did you get the fiberglass and what tools did you use for shaping and everything?

Hey thanks that site is pretty cool. I'm just wondering what kinda resin and stuff I would need for working with fiberglass. I have a roll of fiberglass sheet from homedebot sittin in the garage. IDK why it's there but its not being used. I figured I'd see if I could make anything out of it. Any suggestions on materials?

I did a fiberglass guage holder on my dash. Kind of a PITA but its not too bad. I got the Fiberglass Resin and Fiberglass sheets from a local auto parts store. After about 3 coats, I added a coat or two of bondo and sanded it. Of course sanded each time I was done fiberglassing and letting it sit over night

Yea the resin a Two parts mix and the Sheets are like 5 X 9 feet sheets of fiberglass. Its a PITA because the sheets tend to want to fall apart and all it goes everywhere...make sure you have ALOT of pairs of gloves to use and throw out.

There's all sorts of different grades of mat.
1. Woven. this doesn't fall apart so much as random, it is also stronger, but it doesn't build like random does.
2. Random. this is chopped strands at random directions. stiffer than woven but it builds thickness fast.

There's a fine top coat mat available. It's been too long since I was working in that stuff, mainly doing wing extensions for wide wheels and stuff. As I recall there are several different grades of each type.
