Going to start to mod.
Im going to begin to mod my 98 se auto. I think im gonna start with the Injen intake and some eibach lowering springs. Do the autos really lose power with intakes on? I really hope not it just doesnt make sense. Any reviews on the lowering springs as far as ride/handling go? Thanks.
If you want noise and some engine bling, get an Ebay intake (cheap). AND READ THIS!!!!
Dude dont mod yet. Well at least the springs and struts and get an ebay strut bar. Hack the airbox for the intake it doesnt take long and you get the noise and then finish with the y-pipe. If you like the look of the clear corners get them but then just stop there and save. Save the money for the Sc'er because that thing is amazing. Or get a the Blemco BBK since the brake kits help you stop so much faster that it acctually could save you sometimes. Just know once you start your not going to stop and eventually you will realise you should have just bought a nice new or fairly new car that wont cause you any problems. Just my 2 cents

OO yea. Well i think you can use smaller rims (not smaller then stock) with the 300zx Rotors and calipers then use get the 300zx rims and your set lighter rims will make you alittle fast or just have less strees on things.
Sure its auto but who cares at least his car will still perform alittle bit better then most thoes
out there. I know one civic that had alot of work done and only ran a 15.8 @ 87 haha just make sure you enjoy your car. It makes driving a whole lot better.

I have a injen cai on my 96se auto and you do lose low in power but pickup alittle more power when your over3-35k rpm but the problem is in a auto who really drive around at those rpms. save your money less you want the noise, or just but a maf adapter and a K/N cone this is alot cheaper and will do the same thing.

Some people enjoy music more than all the boltons in the world, some people do both. To each his own of course.
I would suggest forgoeing powerplant modifications and spend your time and money on tires (and I'm not talking about 18's), stiffer springs, better struts and chassis stiffening (WSP subframe connectors). The motor has enough power...its putting it the ground that is the real problem.
Don't mod. Every minute of my life I wonder why I bought a SECOND automatic transmission for my Maxima. It is just ... terrible ... nearly an entire second slower 0-60. You start out SO far back so why bother unless you swap. I think my new plan is sell my 95 GLE and get a higher mileage 96-98, kick the VQ30 out and praise the VQ35.
If at all do a 5Spd swap then go mod frenzy.

Who cares if its an auto? Why does that always mean that guys shouldn't work on their cars cause of the auto tranny. Do what you want with the car. It's your car, your money. But I do agree to not worry about the engine as much cause there isn't a lot you can do to the engine. Suspension, exterior, and exhaust should be the first done. I'm doing new suspension and custom exhaust this summer.
Hmm -- So you want more power, better looks, better handling, etc...
There are plenty of other cars that come STOCK with all those requirements.
For example, buy a 5th Gen Maxima. Not nearly as bad 4x4 look, and has 30Hp more at the top end.
Trade in the '98 and buy a 2000 Maxima. My humble opinion.
If the cost of mods to get to the performance you want equals the amount of money you would pay to simply trade-up to a better car STOCK, then modding is largely a fruitless endeavor.
At least with a newer model, the car you get is commensurately worth more relative to the amount you pay to get it.

let's not nitpick over which one is better, i'd have to say that manual is alot more fun to drive, it's like a totally different car.
Swap first, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, you'll be glad you did.
