foam air filter vs. paper

my weapon r dragon intake came with a dragon cone FOAM filter. ive heard foam does not filter good, and lets crap in the engine. is that true? also, could i buy a universal K+N cone airfilter and put it on my dragon intake? is a paper filter better than foam?

Just go buy a K&N cone filter or a Apexi dry filter which has better filtration then the K&N. Apexi and K&N are the only 2 good filters

Monsterflow maybe, I mean c'mon are you serious?! MonsterFlow is the only filter in my eyes. Go to the injen intake thread if you wanna read why I'm sure as hell not posting it again.

I was talking to a friend of mine today, which is what made me search for this thread...me having an apexi filter on my berk on my 05 maxima....and him with an 02 3 series using some beema intake with a foam filter. The kid was swearing to me up and down that foam is better. He was telling me that he did alot of research on them because he used to have a filter like mine and it didnt do much for him. He was telling me that alot of the low-end torque loss related to intakes is because of the material used in standard filters is corrected with a GOOD foam filter. I dont know if this is some beema thing that doesnt apply to maximas but he swears by it so much that i thinking of trying it for the hell of it.

The big factor w/ the K&N filter is the red oil you spray on it. This stops a lot of fine particulate from passing through the filter. Other than that K&N is made w/ foam.

The oil does indeed help with filtration, but the filters are made of cotton. www.knfilters.com

I have a steel mesh filter, let me tell you, it has excellent airflow, but it only filters out squirels and any object that is bigger than the filter itself.

Id be kinda leary of the foam filters. They do flow better, but they also allow more items to pass though. The foam can also break down in time and crumble, then those particles get sucked into the motor.
