What to check/change after buying a used maxima

After looking all over town I finally picked up a maxima. I got a 99 gle auto for a good price from a dealer here in town. There were things that I noticed even before picking the car that I knew I would have to fix. I think that is part of the experience of buying a used car. Anyways I am trying to figure out what all I need to get checked and changed on this car before I start modding it. So far here is my list.

Oil Change
Transmission Flush
Rotors need to be resurfaced
New tires (I think I will be buying kumho 712's not sure yet)
Alignment
Need to repair paint in a few small places

What else can you guys think of that I need to work on before I begin the modding process? Also I will be out of town this weekend so it will be a few days until I read the thread, thx.

- Spark Plugs
- Belts
- Windsheild Wipers
- Brake Pads
- Grease Door Hinges/Latches (white lithium grease)
- Fuel Filter
- Air Filter
- Radiator Flush
This is just a few that came to mind. Mind me asking, How much did you pay and how many miles on the car?

Check the ECU for codes even if the CEL isn't on. Check your jack and tire changing equip. Check the PSI in your spare, I think it should be 70lb.

since it's a 99, keep an eye on the coilpacks. also check for codes to see if you need a new knock sensor.

Just buy new rotors. Resurfacing is a joke. Brembo blanks = $100 from tirerack.com.

I think u R covered if you follow above advice. Make sure you have your mechanic check your knock sensor becuaes even if it is bad, your CEL light won't come on. Your knock sensor could hinder your mpg and horsepower output.

I assume you ran a Carfax or an Experian auto check? If not you may want to do so to see if its been hit or any TSBs/recalls need to be performed. Other than that, the other guys hit it on the head. Listen for the rear brakes not disengaging all the way after having the parking brake on. That is a common problem with our gen Max's.

thats how i basically got screwed w/ my max when i bought it. it had a knock sensor bad even though cel was cleared. but it shouldnt stop u from buying it if u like the car.
its an easy diy fix. just takes time and patience. (bloody hands too)

also check for other codes like o2 sensors..

u might also check underbody for any leaks from cv joints, kick the tires, for movement...
check exhaust for any blue smoke, excessive white smoke...

list goes on and on for buying a used car.
but know what u doing, and u can find a great deal

Also jack it up and check the front wheels for play side to side which would indicate bad or failing wheel bearings.

Leather interior? Clean well and condition
Check CV boots, suspension gaiters
flush old brake fluid by pumping it through an opened bleed nipple, replacing with fresh
check belts, retension if required
remove a spark plug to check condition, see if replacement is necessary
clean the IACV
battery electrolyte level
flush radiator, replace coolant
check all tyres for sidewall bulges etc

Congrats! Looking for tires? I just purchased Hankook K106's....OEM for a 97 SE. Got them from Discount Tire Direct. Great service, no tax, free shipping. Price was $265 for a set of four. I like these tires, I LIKE THESE TIRES! They stick, they ride nice/quiet and so far seem good in the wet too. Course they are hi performance and only summer tires. Check them out. Cheers
