Tein Coilover install question
Tein Coilover install question
I just helped a friend of mine put Tein coilovers on his 4th gen. My question is (looking back on it) when you guys lowered the car and no load was on the suspension was there play in the spring...up and down? His set up is diffrent than my D2's and I am worried if he goes over a real big bump the suspension will unload and the spring will clank around. For the guys who have done the install can you shead in light? Thanks. We maxed the coilovers out, so the spring has plenty of play up and down....when the weight of the car is on its fine. Is this something I sould not ever worry about?
when i installed mine i went by exactly what the instruc manual said, basically about an inch above the bottom of the threaded portion. that gives a mild drop and plenty of suspension travel. if you do this there will be some preload on the spring so it shouldn't be moving around. the manual also said not to lower beyond this point as it "could" cause damage. i wouldn't necessarily worry about that unless there under warranty. i just had my SS's rebuilt about 6 months ago and because they where under warranty it only cost me $15 plus shipping. i'll check the manual and post what it reads.
edit: i was incorrect, the manual does state where you should set the height for the springs included with the kit but it doesn't mention having it set at the bottom to be a problem. i work on too much crap and i'm gettin it all mixed up. sorry for the confusion. you should be good to go with you current set up. just watch for uneven roads and bad bumps.
