CV boots

i need to buy new left and right CV boots. when i look on ebay there are inner and outer ones. I just know I saw the ones that are on the axle are leaking. what should i search for? they have a bunch of stuff on ebay, but they all say more than just the description i have on my estimate printout from a shop.
help please

Well which CV boot is leaking? Is it the one closer to the transmission? (inner) or the one by the brakes (outter)?

you may also want to look in to getting axles if the boots have been split for a period of time. once anything gets in there, even replacing the boot won't save them. the damage may be done and it is just a matter of time before the CV axle is ground up. it may save you trouble in the future and a messy job of messing with CV grease and the boots. just something to think about.

I agree, your car will be better off in just replacing the axle, not just the boots. As soon as dirt has the opportunity to get in there, its all over.

Yeah, if you hear a clicking sound when you turn, that mean new axle.

i drove mine for about 40K miles with both boots cracked and never heard a thing. finally got off my lazy a$$ and had both axles replaced last year. total bill was ~$500.

No symptoms for me. just had someone tell me they were broken. They told me I might be able to get away without the axle replacement. which would be nice.

that's what i thought at first too. then i was informed the axles could go at any time and leave me stranded and paying for the towtruck. i felt stupid for not thinking of it before...then i got them replaced. just a thought...

I would replace the axle if the boot is cracked through all the way. They are cheap and most have a lifetime warantee, around $60 for one.

I replace my passenger side axle for around 60. I also have a lift, It wouldn't be easy without a lift(not recommended)
