Huge Issue.. Could Effect my Poker Game

OK.. So, I'm not sure what prompted me but I decided to flip the switch in my trunk to prevent people from opening it from the button on the door.. real Smart.. Now I can't open the trunk. Not even with the key. I tried turning it with the key and it turns a quarter of the way and thats it. Don't want to force it as it might snap the key. I only have this one key so I'm not sure what to do.

Going through the trunk isn't an option, since the little ski hole that I have is blocked by a particle board thats holding my amp.. Does anyone here know what to do or has any of you been in this situation?...Oh.. my poker chip set is in there.. That doesn't help my game this weekend..or popularity for that matter.. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!!!!!!

IIRC, your ignition key won't work for the trunk, there was a seperate key issued from the factory to open the trunk. Definately do not force your key in there...I know my ignition key won't even budge if I put it in the trunk. Good luck man...I don't know how you're getting in. I was confused at first...I didn't know what this had to do with poker...What about the botton on the key fob? Or is that disabled too?

i think you could take off the rear seat back, and you may be able to unscrew a large metal plate. not sure how you amp and sub are all set up, but this may be an option. i remember vaguely that it comes apart like that. take off the seat cushion and check it out.

Yea, I remember that too, but can't remember where I saw it. Either way, good luck with opening it, I think this may be your best option.

Just reiterating what I read on the .org from a while ago...maybe you have the key that starts the car and opens up the trunk? While my key that did that got lost among previous owners and I got the one that doesn't open the trunk?

Just got my I30 2 weeks ago and the same thing happened to me. None of my keys worked or the remote. I had to finally go thru the ski hole in the rear seat and use my ice scraper to reach the release. I couldn't find any other way. You might just have to remove the whole rear seat section to get past your amp. Sorry man, I wish I was more help.

if a stealership can't help you,

remove rear seats:
-front of bottom cushion snaps into place
-rear part of bottom slides out from under the upright cushion
-undo bolts holding on rear cushion
-lift
-your in the trunk, some what, hopefully your amp isn't blocking the entire opening, removing the seats is pretty easy so its worth a shot

good luck man

You have to hold it for about 5 seconds before the trunk pops, if you are just pressing it then thats why its not working.

Yeah.. I may have that one key that will only start the engine.. But no.. Because I was able to open my trunk a long time ago, ranted, the lock inside was activated but I was still able to use my key to open the trunk.. Unless.. I can use the key to open the trunk, but when the lock is activated, I need that other key?

From the sounds of it, looks like I'm screwed. The way my amp is set up is that when you are looking into my trunk, the whole back of it, is covered with one carpeted particle board and my amp is screwed to it.. Totally blocking my ski hole and everything else.. Now.. if I had to do that, I might not be able to get to far since my sub is in there, I won't be able to flip the piece of wood up as it will get caught..

I'll try taking the seat apart.. Thats gonna be a ***** and half.. and There's no way I'm taing it to a stealership...

Does anyone know how this lock works? Some visuals?

As for the trunk button on the key, Yeah.. That button is useless cause if the button in the car doesn't work, whats the difference of the signal coming from the key? ......

The remote sends and electronic signal the button on the door may be mechanical.

But I feel for ya, I have an amp over the back seat too so if this happened to me I would be in the same ****ty situation.

Good luck

go to the dealership and give them your VIN number and they can make a key for you. your ignition might have been replaced that's why the key won't work for the trunk, i had a 97 and the ignition key worked when i locked up my trunk, so just go to nissan and they can get a key for you that should work

This wont help you open your trunk, but if you want to stop people from opening the turnk with the door button. Do what i did and unhook the wire connected to the button.

A key that works in the ignition but does not work for the trunk is referred to as a "valet" key.

Typically though a valet key will not even turn at all in the trunk lock.

I find that in this age of keyless entry and remote trunk releases that the lock cylinders never get used. Depending on the type of climate where you live, your lock cylinders may be prone to seizing from lack of use. The trunk lock on my winter beater would partially sieze up after not being opened for 8 months. I just spray chassis lubricant right into the lock cylinder and then slowly work the key back and forth. It will turn a little more each time until the trunk pops.

Now, I just spray all my vehicles door and trunk locks a couple of times a year.

Yeah.. if it was the valet key, wouldn't it just fit and not turn?

but my other thing is.. if this is possible..

When the lock activation is off.. meaning that the trunk can open with the button, I can use the key..

But if the activation is on, such is the case now, I can't use the key..

That doesn't make sense..

That's weird, you should be able to open the trunk with the key when the lever has been tripped. That's the only way to get into the trunk, so it has to work - if the key works when the trunk is unlocked, but not when it is, I can only think of a problem with the trunk lock mechanism itself. When mine is locked, the key works fine.

Never seen a valet key for the 4th gen Maxima, I had one for my '87 (actually, I had one key that did ignition and all, and one that would only work in the glove box and trunk, but close enough...reverse-valet key).

But yes, take it to a Nissan dealership and see if you can't get a new 'master key' with your VIN, or try to catch a tech just clocking out and give him $5-10 to try to get your trunk open himself. That's what a lot of guys here do for small jobs like that, 'bribe' an off-duty tech.

Easy fiix, broom handle trunk opening is in the stickies through rear seat fold down. Or you sould take your back seat part off and the brace but the broom handle works just fine.

i vote for the speaker hole idea, should be interesting to watch.

taking the seats apart isn't hard at all, under 5 mins no problem, its harder to put em back together.

Hey.. I just called the stealership.. You guys need to tell me where these $15 keys are coming from.. They just told me that there is a chip inside the key.. Which I thought were only in the 98s and up.. second.. It would cost $85 for the key to be made and then half an hour labor for the service people to program the key, another 50 someodd dollars.. I think i will design a prototype gadget to go through my speaker hole.. Oh.. Did i mention that my golfclubs are in the way.. wow.. all these things that I forgot..

I vote for this solution. I have an Infiniti, and my key is a solid piece of metal, therefore no chip. Is the head of your key plastic or metal? If it's metal, then no chip, if its plastic, then there is a chip.

Maybe the dealership guy doesn't know what he's doing?

btw, my infiniti is a 96.
