Wheel studs and vibration
Wheel studs and vibration
Can using aftermarket wheel studs cause enough of a wieght difference to cause vibration at high speeds? Three of my studs got stripped when i bought the car and i had to change them. I bought aftermarket studs that where a little bit longer than the stock one. Could this cause vibrations at higher speeds? I know that more than 1/4 oz off balance of a wheel/tire you can feel it , but since the stud is on the hub and the weight is centered near the middle of the wheel would the weight difference between the stock and aftermarket stud cause any big difference or vibration?
Your reasoning makes some sense to me, however Pep Boys broke two of my studs off one wheel (tried to charge me for replacing them - jerks) when I was getting my tires balanced. I would be surpised to find out that they didn't use aftermarket studs since they did use completely different lug nuts. Point being, I didn't feel any vibrations at higher speeds so maybe the studs were to spec but for sure the lug nuts were a different weight. Food for thought.
Thanks. I dont think it would cause any vibrations because the weight is so close to the center of the wheel, but just the thought of it bothers me. I think i'll change them out for 1.50 a peice and have peice of mind.
