2,000-3,000 RPM IDLE! What sensor to replace?

Hey guys,
Like the title states. My coworker has a '98 SE and has a big problem. His Max idles between 2-3K!! This makes it hard to stop the car, and is doing ba things to his transmission when he shifts it from Park to Drive!

Does anyone know what sensor to replace? Where it's located? Any pics?

THANKS!!

He can try to adjust the IACV theres a big black screw on it and can adjust it one way or the other to lower the idle. If that doesn't work idk.

Thanks for the tips. We just went out and turned the screw up, then down...it affected it a little, but it's still racing.

I screwed it all the way to the top, and then back all the way down. Still no luck.

Hmm did it affect anything? If not then somethings wrong with it possibly, might have to remove the whole thing and check for broken parts.

Yea thats not going to do. Sounds like you have a stuck IACV. Take the IACV off the manifold and clean it really well with TB cleaner. While your there make sure you clean the TB as well with a Toothbrush and TB cleaner and alot of rags. Should fix your problem

Does idle speed change with temp?
If not, maybe the ECT sensor is kaput. I'd clean up the IACV first and then if you've still got a problem go for the ECT.
