Oil Change?

Ok, where to start where to start. My car has been running on synthetic for all of its life. For some reason unknown to mankind, my mechanic decided to treat me and change my oil. He drained the good stuff and put in some Castrol 10w40. Oh yeah, and he threw out my good oil filter for some god knows what he put in instead, but thats another story. Here is my main concnern; would it be ok for me to drive 3,000 miles on this regular oil and switch back to Synthetic on the next cycle or is it imperative that I drain it immediately and put in the good ole stuff.

Thanks!

Switching back and forth will not hurt your Max. Just run the car 3k miles and switch back to synthetic!!

yeah, it wont hurt. its like getting punched on your arm once by someone weak and it doesn't hurt, but eventually if they keep punching, it will hurt.
blah...i dont know if that made any sense lols.
but it wont hurt your car, its only once, just wait 3k and change it back to synthetic.

Sounds good, thanks!

And yes, I understand your analogy perfectly, I have a 11 year old brother.

Does the fact that he put in 10w40 instead of the recommended 5w30 change anything?

I would just take it back and put either 10w-30 dino oil or synthetic 10W-30. 10W-40 is too thick for the max. It won't kill the car for 3k miles, but the owners manual doesn't recommend that weight. 5w-30 or 10w-30 is all you should put in the max, unless it's leaking oil like a sieve. Then you should fix you car. Face it, your mechanic F***ed up!!

The obvious queston is what kind of POS oil filter did he install. If it's a Fram, I would change the oil back to synthetic and put in a Nissan OEM filter or, alternatively, a Mobil 1 filter or Puroator PureOne filter.

What kind of synthetic oil were you running?

I was running Quaker State Synthetic, 10W30 I believe.

Yeah your mechanic is an ignoramous. Wouldn't any sane mechanic ask what type of oil do you want to use before he changes it? whether you want to stay with the same oil or switch?
