Ok, i'll get as detailed as possible.

2 days ago im driving my car, not hard or anything, just went ot mickie d's and came back home, was enjoyin the nice weather we were having. I get home, park my car, ok, no problem, i even go out later that night, come home, no problems, nothing wierd that i dont know already right?

Well...yesterday morning i go to start up my car ( Remote starter ) and it normally starts on the first click..it didnt, started on the 2nd try though, so i let the car warm up as i get dressed inside, come outside, hop in my car, and i immidiately " WTF??? ". My idle was at like 600 ( normally 900 - 1300 ). Im like ok, we did have some wierd weather this morning ( it thunderstormed, then snowed, then was sunny as **** in a span of 1 - 3 hours ). So i blamed it on that, im aware that the weather has alot to do with how a car performs. So with this in mind, i shrug it off, put it in drive. Sput Sput Sput....the car sputters, rpm's travel between 100 - 600, then the car shuts off, like if it stalled out. So im like ok...wtf....I havent done anything out the ordinary, so i get out, check my exhaust, pop the hood, make sure everythign is tight in there, ok cool, lets try that again. Start it up, idle's at about 800 this time, ok a little better then last time so maybe i wont have this problem, but once again, put it in drive, sput sput sput, car stops shut. So now im really like wtf, im running late for school and i couldnt miss class so i decided to try something. I put it in Neutral after starting it up, no problems, idles at 1100, then i put it in drive, sputs and shuts. So next time i put it in neutral, rev to about 5000 rpms then DROP that boy into drive, burnout in my backyard, pissed parents, but the car goes. Somethign was odd though, it felt as if the car was stuck in like 3rd or 4th gear though when i did that cuz i barely went anywhre, when i got to the end of my driveway, sput sput sput, then shut. So now im pissed, i do the same thing again though and im able to get the car on the road, wasnt shutting down but stil lsputtered and about 2 lights, again i'd floor it and it'd feel as if i was in 3rd, dunno wtf. After about 20 min or so of driving, everythign was fine ( WTF?? ) So i go to school, fine, come home fine.

Today, i get in my car, it starts fine, but once again idle is low, i put it in drive, same problem as before. So i clean the IACV, TB, and then seafoam ( DEEP CREEP ) into the brake booster and liquid seafoam in the tank. Let it sit for 30 min, start it up, smoke show but still was having my idle problem. Im hoping it's not the tranny, as i've already invested more into the car then it's worth. When i was at work i was able to pull off through the sput but the car stayed in like 3rd gear for a good 10 minutes. Felt wierd having an auto, flooring it, and going no where. So now i dont know WTF to do, hopefully someone has a clue. I also have made video's tonight of the problem.

If it is the tranny. God help me im parting with the max and going to another car, i've had nothing but PROBLEMS since i first got the car and the problems seem to just continue to build up.Im not paying 1000 - 2000 for a tranny or rebuild when i bought the car for 2,000 O_o...probably why i have the problems i have now !!

first of all, the stalling could possibly be your coilpacks and plugs, when was the last time they were changed and how many miles are on the car? their supposed to be changed every 60k. if you have a 99, the coilpacks were recalled because of ****ty manufacturing or something. check for recalls.

now, when the car feels like its going nowhere, like its stuck in third as you said; thats called "limp mode", nissan designed it so that if there was ever a problem with the transmission the TCM would automatically engage this so that you can get somewhere safely to repair the car so your not FUKD on the side of the road. Usually if its nothing serious, the next time you turn on the car, the ECU and TCM, pretty much reset and you should be able to drive normally.

plusssss...my own 2¢, dropping your automagic into D @ 5,000RPM on ANY CAR IS A REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD IDEA! that how you snap your driveshaft in half and screw up everything else in the process...trust me, been there done that.

i hate to say it, but dropping in @ 5k probibly caused you more problems than the stalling. and you will prob. pay for it in the long run.

sorry man, wish i coulda given you better news.

dude i had the same exact problem last week. and today my car is only driving in first and second as if there is no third or fourth gear. the problem is the tranny. im gettin mine fixed this week coming up and im dropping it off tommorow. hopefully that helps you. oh and last week i was just driving normally, and the car threw up a SES light. so i took it to autozone, and it was a code 0744. the details stated that "the voltage signal from the torque converter clutch is intermittent". that should basically explain it.

i'll replace the plugs tomorow, what i dont understand is how everythign can be perfectly fine when i get home at 12 at night after VERY easy driving on my car all day. and then at 8 in the morning immidiately have this problem. I have a 98 so i dont worry about the coilpack recoil issue, but im gonna replace the plugs and see if that helps.

that happens occasionally for me but i just throw it in neutral for a sec and the idle comes back up to 900 by itself. then back in gear and it runs fine for the rest of my trip. onyl happens wheni dont let it run for about a min before driving but i see you left yours warming up for quite some time. sorry man that sucks.

yea im leaning towards that even though many believe it not to be. The symptons to me seems like tranny, starts fine, runs fine, just gear shift problems .

thats what happened with me. it started fine, but when i went into reverse it shut off. before i actually got the car to actually drive it stalled about 20 times. when i got to drive i had to put it in neutral rev up to like 2000 rpms, and drop it into drive, and even then it sputtered a little bit, and it drove. i got to a light put it in N, when it was green, it drove like nothing happened. and then just tuesday, the car was only using two gears, 1st and 2nd, as if there are no 3rd or 4th.

I do hope that was just an example and that you don't really think that the 4th gen maximas have driveshafts...

I am having the same issue with poor idle, when in gear, and poor acceleration. The OBD reading was a bad knock sensor…I just replaced it, changed spark plugs and fuel filter and the max is still running funny.

Did you check your knock sensor?

I had a similar problem with the exception of gear changes and my check engine light came on. Did yours? K ended up having to replace the mass air flow sensor. Hope it helps

**** with all th stalling I would think it could've been a bad fuel pump but he's experiencing slippage.... so much for those damn 98's lol

First off 12 and 33 are not codes. Pull the codes right, search in the How To's sticky here in the 4th gen forum, than pull and decode them, post them in a NEW thread.

Also Hows your general maintenance been? Cleaned your IACV or TB lately?

Ok, to make things clear here,If you got a p0744 that's a TC/sol, basically you need to just go and take off the pan and the bolts drop the VB and then just rebuild then VB with a pan or a bucket off ATF so you can clean all of that build up out and so you can just piece out the VB and take it apart and then just put it back together with some new shifting solinoids take care of all of the shifting part, basically your VB is stuck and the valves are not opening and closing the certain valves that are instructed by the TCM.

I hope you guys realize that he has a 91 Maxima, which is not 4th generation and hence the code numbers which are the ODB1 vs ODB2.
