I just read Bill's post on the maintenance items. I saw the difference between the Maxima and the 300ZX filter. There was a huge difference. I want to get the 300ZX filter. How would I mount it? Has anyone done it? Any clearance problems?

Well, of course, I have done this on my 99 without ABS. ABS *may* make it more difficult, but I doubt it. It's only bigger in circumference, which *could* interfere with the ABS stuff. However, since the fuel filter mounting bracket is metal, it can probably be massaged in....

Here's pics to help:

Before with stock filter still there:

After with 300Z filter:

The 300Z filter mounts in the same stock location, the brackets are just stretched out a little more....

Unless you have ABS, I know for sure this is doable....

How much does the larger fuel filter help? What do you gain with it?

Extended service life. Since there is a greater filter area for the fuel, it will take longer for the filter to wear out.

I recommend 15k filter changes with the normal size filter, and 30k for the 300z.

There are NO performance gains....

Synki,

All part/price info is in the Maxima Maintenance Items "sticky" post. But, yes, it is the Twin-Turbo 300Z filter.....

I think it's a good idea to prevent having to do this PITA maintenance item more often than necessary.

Of course, I'm sure people think 15k changes are too frequent for a standard fuel filter, but that's what I did until the 300Z filter......now I'm "at peace" with 30k.....

If anything it should theoretically filter better.....

Has anyone ever considered replacing the fuel filter with a higher flow one, or maybe the K&N one? Or any of the random ones found in Summit Racing?

Thanks.
