idler pulley bearing going out

idler pulley bearing going out

98 gxe, my idler pulley/tensioner bearing is making some noise. anyone have a part #? i tried looking online at partsamerica and autozone.com and I couldn't find anything. i went to the parts store (kragen) and they were asking for a number off of the bearing

You'll likely have to pull yours apart for a bearing number to attempt to replace the bearing only. I may be wrong, but I believe that Nissan sells the idler pulley only as an entire assembly. About $40. At least that's what I had to buy when I replaced mine.

my shop charge me $63! they broke the "special bolt" that only comes as part of the assembly

haha, same here...but i broke it. It's a left-hand thread. It doesn't make a difference though, if it is right-hand thread, you just need to turn it the opposite way to tighten it. Nissan wants about 17 for the rod part, and like 8 for the top piece.

As for the bearing...take off the tensioner, press the old one out, take it to an industrial supply place, and they'll most definitely have one for less than 10 bucks. Don't bother replacing the whole thing from Courtesy...it's rediculous.

do the whole thing. the shafts tend to break after a while trust me..y not get the one from coutesy its complete ready to go in instead of running around gathering 8 different parts....you wuill waste more in gas than u will orderign the complete setup

no problem man. I took mine to work, welded a threaded rod onto the broken shaft, and retapped the top piece to a right-hand thread. Then I annealed it. It's much stronger than the stock one for sure.
