HID projectors for a 4th gen cost a pretty penny. Especially those of us with duals and bi-xenons

If you want to put HIDs in them I would say don't do it. They are not true projectors, they don't have a sharp cutoff. They are meant to be more of true fog lights rather than driving lights, meant to scatter lots of light low and to the sides. A 3000k HID kit might LOOK ok in them, but the actual output would be way too scattered to be useful.
If you want HID fogs, either keep the stock housings (I wouldn't reccomend it) or invest in some true projector fogs with a cutoff. That's a good bit more $$$ though.

Thats what i figured about the HID. I would love to do a kind of retro with the factory fogs but the housings are a biatch to get apart. I might go the same route as you (they have an interesting pair of halogen fogs for w/halo's for about $50 shipped (woudl be interesting). I only want to have functioning fogs for when i take road trips especially for UK football games since I-64 in KY is where i hit the deer. And had my foglights been working i believe i could have avoided it. By the way how much are the blubs you are lookin at? I think i may just be a little copy cat.

Run it off the battery with an inline fuse like you woudl do with an amp, that should take car of any melting problems and you could splice a toggle switch in there if you didnt want to mess with the factory switch. You think that would work?

Also, an inline fuse would not prevent me from frying the wires entirely I don't think, just prevent overload.

BTW, I never even thought about a relay. RockfordMax proposed that idea to me for keeping the stock fog switch and using the battery for power.

I never though about that either. If you try it out let me know.

I'm hoping for brighter lighting just from doing that, even with the stock bulbs. The guys who use upgraded conversion harnesses to do the 9007 conversion notice a good increase in brightness, so I'm hoping that will hold true in this case as well. These fogs are great, they just need to be BRIGHTER! I may try and take one apart and spray paint the inside chrome, because I don't think there's any actual reflector to it...just the metal backing that holds the bulb inside.
