Shifting Hard

i got a 99 maxima auto, with 127,XXX miles. It started shifting hard into and out of 1st to 2nd gear, and 2nd to 1st. So I got the tranny flushed and put a treatment in there, well it helped the problem but did not fix it. I want to put Lucas tranny fluid in it, but i am reluctant because i don't know if it will effect the tranny negatively. what do you guys think?

Did you put in a whole bottle? If so, that fu*king sucks! Does that mean i am going to have to replace the tranny any time soon?

I think its funy how when u drive stick people not only compliment you alot more for doing something they cant, but the complications with the tranny are usually less common, and less severe. Thats why i always drive stick, the chicks dig ya, and the only worries u have are changing the clutch every 50,000 miles. Umm, so yeh if i were you i'd start talking to some junkyards and getting prices on a used tranny, or spend a little extra and go for the 5 spd swap.

I have the same problem and months ago i put a full bottle of Lucas in. I thought it fixed the problem, which it did, but only for like a day or two like that one guy said. Also, maxima sticks seem to have A LOT more problems than autos. Honda makes a great manual cars

Dont use Lucas, I always hear u get good results but only for very short time.

My tranny shifted the same, had very firm shifts 1-2 and pretty much most gears. I used to think it was normal till my friend told me that ur not supposed to get that jerk wen it shifts. But now I am very happy with my tranny. I did a flush and put in Mobil 1 ATF synthetic, and once it warms up it shifts like butter!!!!, i strongly suggest for anyone with auto to do a flush with either Amsoil or Mobil 1 (look in the fluid threads). before doing the flush see wat color ur current fluid is. If its really dark (not pinkish or redish) then dont touch it and accept the way it shifts because doing a flush might cause problems since the tranny is already beat up. BUT if the fluid is nice and pink or redish clear, that means the tranny is probably in o.k. condition at this point u can go for the flush manually (dont use them machine flushes). look up on how to do the flush on the fluid threads as well. hope this helps

How much would a 5 speed swap go for? i have a 99 SE auto. My tranny is smooth as hell, it shifts with no problems but then again I flush and change the fuild and filter every 2 yrs or 30k miles. I fine nothing wrong with the autos its just that people don't take care of them

Somewhat, you would need to purchase 10qt's of mobil 1. Take the tranny drain plug out and let it all come out (about 4qt's) then plug it back up, then fill the same amount that came out with new mobil. Then disconnect tranny Feed line that goes into radiator, point to a bucket or w/e tell someone to turn on car and let it spit out about 2qts. turn off car, fill the amount that came out. then do it again till u do all 10 qt's. Go on the stickys for more detailed steps on doing the flush.

Well if ur not 100% sure of its location or how it is installed I dont recommend doing it urself. You have to drop the pan and i think theres a few there accessible, im not sure which one is the one that needs to be changed if it even has to be changed. I wouldnt touch it myself.

There's a thread with some info on solenoids. I don't know if those are only for slipping trannys but either way you can check if they are good or not through the link. I'm gonna do it this weekend.
