In need of advice -Suspension

Hi,

I have 2 Maximas (both 4th gen). My first maxima has a nice firm ride and when I hit a bump it makes like a "thump" noise. It has 150,000kms.

The 2nd Maxima, when hitting bumps (very common in Quebec) it "clanks"..meaning it's not firm. It has 160,000kms.

As far as I know, no suspension/shocks changes were ever done.

What's your advice on what I need to change to make the car a firmer ride?

Thanks

Check all the struts for any oil on the outside. If so, then it may have blown.

Also check your entire exhaust system. There might be a broken hanger.

As for making a firmer ride.. How much money do you have to spend?

The exhaust system is in great order and no loose hangers. I don't wanna lower the car..I'd say about $800 or so.

Thanks

$800 for both car? You can just buy a set coilovers w/ that money, and yu dun have to lower it down, just leave it high, lolz, 800 only can get yu 1 set.

Another advice w/$800 yu can buy 2 sets of Tokico Illuminas (firm ride, got a pair for my EG), and using yur stock springs, and still have some left over money, for labor, or yu can do install yur own.

Well, if you just want to firm up the ride a little, you can get some KYB GR-2 or Tokico Blue struts to replace the stock ones.

They are about 15% firmer than stock. A full set should cost around $250-300.

Or you could upgrade to adjustable struts (KYB AGX or Tokico Illuminas) for about $400-450 per full set.

Then add front strut bars to each car for about $30-40 each.

estimates in US Dollars.
