Need a new front bumper - how good is aftermarket?

Parts of my car are currently getting repainted. The bodyshop called and says I need a new front bumper, because the original has been pitted too badly, and they cannot fill the pits on rubber/urathane.

They want me to purchase a new aftermarket bumper. How do they compare to OEM? Weaker? Doesn't fit well? Anyone here has experience with them?

Thanks

fitment on aftermarket parts is not the best. i would tell them to get oem parts only.

I have an aftermarket bumper and it fits perfect. The only thing is that paint had a hard time sticking. I have one Crack so far and its been painted since last april. Its not so bad, but it could be better. I just have to be careful.

I also might need a new front bumper and a rear one.

My front one was gold originally (oem), and painted over in black to match my car, but the black paint was wearing off. I sanded off all the black and gold paint, so now its just primer black, but I think I may have sanded a little bit of the plastic off in some areas.
not sanded through, but maybe rounded some corners a little too much.
would that make it hard to paint over again?

I've been painting all my friend's car, not the whole car, just the hood, top and hatch. I can tell you the reason the black paint wear off, because yur didnt sanded down the gold. What you mean by sanded down the plastic off?

My brother has an aftermarket front bumper on his '01. Looks like OEM, but it has had to be painted twice due to the paint and primer not sticking. And it's not the body shop's fault, since some of the cars they work on damaged-in-transit cars sold as new so their quality is top-notch.

Wow that so expensive, because it'll be painted for you right? I wouldnt do that if i were you, what if they messed up on the paint, then it'll make you have to send it back. Just buy the original one and go yur local shop to get the paint job done, so you can see the result done in front of yur eyes.

ebay is the cheapest place i can find. Or i make a deal with you. I can get 97-99 front bumpers for $59 included tax, and i'll ship to yur place, but you have to pay for the shipping. I think its around like 70 something total. If you trust me enough to do that, cuz there a place near me call SIMO, sell real cheap parts.

I have an aftermarket and it fits real good. I think the company that made it is VENG or something like that. The bodyshop I go to said that they have never had a complaint from any customer with these parts so I went ahead and got it. They warranty all of their work anyway so I wouldn't be worried about the paint peeling.

i didnt paint the bumper, macco did . Figures, thats what i get for trying to do it cheap.
Okay, by sanding the plastic off, I mean that the front bumper cover is made out of some plastic material, right? I think I sanded off all the primer and went further, into scratching the plastic material beneath.

is that bad?

You only suppose to sand off the primer and thats it, but since here you went down further, i think thats oke too. But after you sand it down. After that get sanding paper and dip w/ water and start go over the entire bumper again, but dun actually sanded it, that way it make yur surface smoother, wait until it dry, and then prime the color you want. After primer like couple of layers, depend how much you want. Wait until for it to get reallllly dry, (do it somewhere there no dust nor wind), and use a sponge and clean it w/ water. Now you can clear coat if you want. IF you still dun understand what i just say, pm me i tell you more specificly details, am in a rush installing my friends shock.

i got into an accident almost an year ago, but it was nothing major. i think i need to change my front bumper though. It's really scratched up and its been pushed up all the way to the left side [looking the car from the front view] . I only need to replace the front bumper right ? the hood seems okay. The left headlight have been slightly pushed inside but thats about it. and also, how do i get the fog lamp plastic part out when i get the front bumper ? should i get a aftermarket ?
