When in traffic and going under 40, turn it off. From the myths, everyone says that it helps save your tranny from gear-hunting

Otherwise Keep it on, saves your *** gas, and if you need power, just press the gas, the tranny is capable of shifting when it needs to

why is this so hard to understand...?
basically the only real purpose of turning OD off is for like going up hillsm or pulling a heavy load...like some said, to prevent gear hunting. Just leave OD on... if you leave it off all the time your gas mileage will go down. and if you need it to downshift just step on the gas pedal! damn newbs...

I keep OD off when Im in town under 45 or so. It's actually been getting me better gas mileage. I keep it off in town and back on on the highway. It doesnt make you drive faster tho.

nice thread.

I keep OD off when Im in town under 45 or so.
How does that help? if youre going 40mph or under it doesnt go into 4th gear anyway. OD on or off under 40mph does nothing.

my 2 cents: around town i always have OD locked out. It does save the tranny b/c when it slips in & out of 4th gear, it creates friction and heat which lowers the life of the tranny. This esp. bad when a tranny is under-designed and lacks proper lubrication (e.g. Dodge Dakota Auto's/Acura TL). Also i drove a 99 GXE auto and my 95 SE is way more positive in shifts and way more responsive. :attention

OD button malfunction

Has anyone had the button stop functioning? I have a 98 with 150,000 miles on it and the other day the button stopped working. It won't disengage the OD anymore... Anyone have any ideas on a fix?? Maybe the switch?

i have this same problem right now but too lazy to fix it and plus i never drive my car without OD.

there's a thread in the stickes that tells you how to fix this problem.. don't really feel like searching it for you though but maybe someone can give you a link. it's some loose wiring in your shifter or something... easy fix and a common problem in lot of the cars.

being on the topic... you should just drive with your OD on your normal daily driving and just forget about it. unless you don't already know, when the OD light is on your dash is lit up, it means it's off.

The situation is much worse with low blinker fluid.
