Suggestions for a battery???
Suggestions for a battery???
I have my 'air bag' light on and check the ECU and got '55' which is 'no code'. I searched in the forum and found that others had the same problem and it was the battery. Well, I just got back from having my battery tested and sure enough - it needs to be replaced.
Can anyone suggest a brand that is reputable? These guys were a shade away from scary and I didn't believe a WORD of what they mumbled!
If you can't recommend any brand, you could also suggest brands to refrain from!!!
Finally - if I get a battery from a local store (non-auto), what can I do with my old core battery? I know I can't simply throw it away....
Thanks!!!!

Optima, all the way. Great batterys for anything. They supply great power and if you ever decide to get a big stereo you are all set because you usually have to change the battery if you get a big enough amp.
Places like Wal-Mart will also do the core exchange, but you can always take you battery to a local garage and they will usually dispose of it for free.
Hope this helps.

A lot of places now dont do Core exchanges cause the restirctions and all the rules of a core exchange has gotten so high and hard to get the money for it.
I don't think i've ever heard of a brand that just stinks for battery. I mean i've heard of batteries being dead after a couple of months and what not. But you have to factor in everything.
A battery is only used for starting once it starts its all on the alternator. A lot of people will tell you this brand is bad cause it died out on them, but maybe they have a bad starting/charging system.
Find a price that you would like to pay for a battery and just go with what you like. Generally a battery would be 40-75 area for most. Optima's can go for 100-150 red/ yellow tops maybe more. I don't know. Honestly pending on the weather i would look into something with a little higher CCA ( cold cranking amps) if you live states with bad winters.

Thanks for your replies.... I ended up getting a new battery and reset the ECU and voila - everything is golden again.... I can't say how much I LOVE my Maxima. Every time I work on my car I think of the $$ I save.
Now that I'm thinking of it, I'm going to send Maxima.org another donation!!! It's WELL worth the peace of mind forums like this are out there!!!!
