Ebay Knock Sensor

I heard that Knock Sensors are very intollerant to harsh shaking and vibrating. If i purchase a sensor from an online store, will the shipping damage the sensor before it gets here?

I'm sure the tens of thousands of miles of vibration while bolted to an engine block is much worse than what it will encounter during shipping, sitting in an envelope and wrapped in foam. The only thing you really need to be worried about is dropping the bugger after you pull it out of the package.

/also bought one from ebay

It is a nice feeling when your car does not hesitate.

My son was nice enough to help me out with the installation of the KS. His arms and hands are alot smaller than mine . I just made sure that I covered all of the sharp edges with rags.

I ordered mine from e-bay over a year ago, and finally installed it over the weekend. The one thing I recommend you do is test it with a multimeter when it arrives.
To do so, just put the multmeter to kOhms, and put the probes on both metal contacts....it should read 530kOhms. If it reads 0 then you have the probes reversed.
If it reads anything else then its no good, and you should contact the e-bay seller right away.

The difference is night and day....I don't know why I waited so long to install it. (actually I didn't install it....I made my bro and dad cut their hands up since I don't temporarily drive it right now. heh)

Edit * A helpful note about installing it....get a Universal Joint from your local hardware supplier (buy it and return it since you will use it for only one time) I bought the larger 1/2 inch U-Joint, but you can buy the direct to fit 12mm U-Joint if you want. Then use an extension from the u-joint that sticks out of the crevice of bloody knuckles......and ratchet the thing off. Unfortunately you will have to stick your hands in there to get the bolt into the thread when you reinstall, but from what my brother tells me its worth it....

NewBee question. What was the milage on your car when your knock sensor failed or failed enough to cause engine performance to deteriorate? My 98 Se is at 80,000 and seems to be running fine, Knock On Wood. Thanks.
