when sitting idle, my engine makes a kind of lawn mowery ticking noise. I'm wonder if that's normal, or if there may be something wrong.

People have recommended changing the quality of your oil, or using locas oil to clean out your system..

when was your last oil change? i beat down and neglected my old car and if i went too long between oil changes i'd get a wicked case of "valve tap" (as my friend called it). it was a fast clicking noise that would speed up if i tapped the gas pedal. when moving it was too fast to notice, but as soon as i came to a stop i'd hear it again.

may as well throw that out as a first response cause it's easy and i don't have to think about it.

could be your injectors making the ticking noise

I changed the oil...not seeming to make much of a difference. I'm gonna give it a bit to get it through the system, see if it changes

How loud is the noise. Maybe you are reading too much into it....

My lawn mower doesn't tick......

The VQ does make a slight ticking sound when it's idling. Almost as if you can hear the valve's ever so slightly. If it's not excessive, it's normal.
