Looking for perfect switch for the DR mod

I am looking for the perfect switch to use in a DR mod. I had heard that people were having problems with some switches melting with the heat from the engine bay. Does anyone have a link to a switch that would work perfectly for this? Something that is local would be the best but something online will work too, I have to get this going soon, thx.

My switch is nothing fancy, well it lights up but thats about it. I have no problems with melting because I ran the wires from the engine to inside my armrest and its mounted on the front wall of the armrest, kinda under the heated seat switches. All you need is a basic switch, which you can get at any auto parts store or even at a Home Depot or Lowes , two prongs, or if lighted, 3 prongs like mine. Sorry no pics at the moment. Oh and the wire is nothing big either, something like 16 gauge or so IIRC. Check out www.autozone.com or www.pepboys.com , they might have some up on there.

Go to a speedshop store or anywhere they sell nitrous, and get a "wide open throttle switch" this works perfect, i had it installed on the TB for a long time and nothing happend to it as far as melting or anything. I then had to use a second switch for my nitrous so i mounted the dr one behind the accelerator pedal.

Well regardless of the link, just search for toggle switches. From there its all about your preference. Its pretty easy to put it wherever you want. Some people on the org wired it to a wide open throttle switch, but personally, the DR mod is a little too abusive to use everytime you floor it. Its just as easy to flip a switch when you need it and switch it off when you dont. I floor it way too much to have that **** constantly beating up my tranny. And dont forget a tranny cooler- Hayden 506 IIRC

I dont think that really makes sense. The reason to do the DR mod is so that you dont get a lag between shifts causing more heat build up, slip and wear. Id say you actually beat on the tranny more without having the switch. Having it on a Wide open throatle switch is the best way. Why would you want to turn on a toggle switch everytime u floor it and when you let off you have to turn it back off, thats the main reason to have the WOT switch. and if for some reason you forget to turn it off after WOT and it downshifts while still on full line of pressure (dr disconected) then thats not good.

I dont constantly flip the switch on and off. I only use the mod when racing or when I feel like it. That and theres no way to really forget that your car is applying full line pressure, its pretty apparent. As said, I personally am not comfortable with my car banging thru gears when Im just flooring it to pass someone or in other everyday passive situations. I know there has been countless threads on wheather or not this hurts your transmission and really I never saw a proof postive decision reached, so I'm just offering my own experience and preference. The dr mod is there when I need it and thats alright by me. I got 140,000 on my tranny so far and only did this mod about 2 years ago, if I've made it this far with no noticable slips and perfectly colored and smelling fluid for ten years, then Its obvious that the DR mod didnt miraculously save my tranmission from an early death.

Well its not like your tranny is going to become bulletproof either. But yea there is no further proof that this actually saves your tranny. I just go by Jime's experience of running 100+ shot and never blowing a tranny. Hopefully my tranny will last as long as yours. im on 125k miles with no tranny problems that i know of. I got me a B&M tranny cooler (more efficient than a Hayden but more $), did mobil 1 flush, and drop resistor, and im enjoying it.
