no you dont have a 6speed only the 2003 + models have a 6speed and thats only if you get it in stick if its an auto is a 5 speed.Your car is a 4speed auto if you had a stick it would have been a 5speed.Hope that helps you out.

We need 6 speeds like we need 6 wheels.

More is not better. More is for better sales (since stupid people think 6 is better than 5)

Wrong. 2002's had a 6-speed as well. They also had a 4-speed auto for 2002 and 2003, only the 2004+ have a 5-speed auto.

Press the gas pedal to the metal, you should feel it shift every so often..counts the shifts, that's how many speeds you have. If your tranny is bad, you only have 2 speeds. If you get stopped by the cops doing this test, tell them you were just trying to find out how many speeds it has.

the 6 speed is better for gas mileage. That's not exactly stupid. I sometimes I wish I could shift into 6th, damn short gearing on the 5spds.

Seriously, a tall 6th would be so nice on 70mph hwy rides.

Well, you're technically right. What's telling though is the average buyer who walks onto the showroom floor wants more power, and better fuel economy. Anyone who really knows cars knows that tradeoff really doesn't change, and that a 6 speed is not really a good solution. The bottom line is that the average shopper assumes that more is better.

Changing a 5 speed to a taller 5th gear would weigh less, cost less, and not reduce the strength of the gearbox.

The layout of a FWD 6-speed is ugly to say the least - it's a huge penalty to pay in terms of weight and cost. The gain in hwy gas mileage isn't very great, either.

It's all about how you drive, I can cruise at 70 all day long in my Max and get 30 mpg.

I don't know about you but I don't really enjoy cruising at 3k+ on the highway, I don't think there's anything wrong with more usable ratios.

I know that 7 total gears meansyou need longer input and output shafts and you need another selector fork, etc... I guess that equates to less strength and more drivetrain loss... but what else makes them so horrible? I personally would really like one...

I think you mean SMG buddy... they don't do no shifting with no sticks...

That's exactly why I suggested a taller 5th gear for the 5 speed.

There's a whole extra shaft, 2 bearings, and additional housing to hold it.

Doesn't bother me to cruise at that rpm, doesn't affect anything.

I said more usable ratios meaning more ratios that are useable, not ratios that are more usable. Anyway, I would much rather a 6 speed if there were less drawbacks... just another gear to row, giggity giggity.

It's annoying to have such a torquey engine at a lofty 3k when you're just cruising. I normally even shift before that.
