Also when you replace the AT filter, should I purchase the gasket? Its kinda hefty (12 bucks!)

Use Nissan type "D" . In a pinch you can use Dextron Mercon III. If you take the pan off always replace the gasket.

if your on a budget use dexron III, the stuff at the dealer might just even be dexron with fillers. dont overfill the tranny or youll have it coming and please replace the gasket. understand that when tranny fluid gets hot it creates pressure so...no leaks

god bless and good luck

cool sounds good guys.

wehre do you buy Dextron Mercon III? Any auto store? How much around should they cost? I think the dealer quoted me about 4 bucks per quart. Do you guys know about how many quarts I may need to buy?

You can buy Dextron Mercon III anywhere but I recommend the Nissan stuff first--something about it being ashless. Pay the 4 bucks a quart for the good stuff. If you are just doing a drain and fill it will be about 4 quarts. If your are taking the pan off and chinging the filter it will be more like 6.

Save your money. Just a drain and fill every 15K is fine. Or if you want, do a flush every 30K (see sticky for instruction). There is no need to change the filter or drop the pan.

I use Redline Synthetic ATF. its similar to the Nissan ATF but in my opinion it shifts better with my VB Mod. Its usually around $9 qt.
it takes 4.5 qts if your just changing the fluid. I just add 3.5 then i start checking as it warms up.

Follow what your instruction manual says.

Very surprised to see only one mention of Amsoil. Prior posts had convinced me that Amsoil was the way to go for ATF for my 99 Max.

Are there any strong Amsoil advocates out there?

I think Amsoil cost approximately $7.50 per quart.

I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic the last 4 years. My last Maxima was a 2k2 Lease which I made over 400 1/4 miles runs in a 2 year period with absolutely no problems. Fluid was changed twice a year by diy flush, never took the pan off.

My new ride is a 3.5 swap in a 95 auto. I just finished flushing and filling with Mobil 1. I did take the pan off to check the magnets and clean it up but it was fine. No need to buy a gasket with Permatex Ultra Grey gasket maker.

Flush procedure is on my homepage.
