I left work yesterday and the car was shifting fine. Parked it when I got home and it sat til the next morning, got in this morning and it's slipping. It slips enough to get me up my driveway and up the hill but you certainly see the rpm's rev higher and the car slowly moves. The last flush was 40,000 miles ago. Once the tranny begins to slip is this an indication that it needs to be rebuilt or would a flush be in order?

 

first thing you have to check is the fluid level. if the fluid is low it will slip.

Hopefully no damage done since I only drove it up the street and back. I'll check the fluid when I get home. I just put $1300 in my wife's truck I certainly dont' need this!

 

well I checked the fluid level last night and it's where it needs to be. I guess I'll drain what I can and replace with fresh fluid and hope that works. If so I'll take it somewhere that will do a complete flush to clean out the coverter.

 

Question:
When starting from a cold start, sometimes my gear shift will absolutley not move from park. I ahve to wait a few minutes sometimes seconds before I can go. Is this normal?

 

no it is not normal, could be the shifter linkage

 

Consider a complete trans flush, most places do them for about $80. Even the dealer does it for a reasonable price.

 

The slip, I hate to say, probably won't be fixed by a fluid change.
More likely to be the torque converter.
