Hey guys,

I'm going to be lowering my car pretty soon, and have decided to go with the H&R Springs and Koni Shocks. I know the Konis are on backorder, but I won't be ordering for a while so I'm not worried about that.

What I want to know is, since you have to cut apart your OEM struts for the Konis, is it possible to put the OEM struts back in? My reason for asking is because when I go to sell my car, I want to put it back to stock, and I just wanted to make sure I could do that with the Konis. Anyone know?

Nope. You destroy the OEM struts in the process. Just turn the Konis full soft and put the OEM springs back on when you sell. That's the best you could do.

Keep and eye on the For Sale forum. There is usually someone that is selling, or is willing to sell their stock struts. That way you can destroy those, and keep your stocks for later.

Awww man!!

I think I'm gonna do what ejj5875 said and buy some used struts. Or maybe I'll just save my cash (and time) and wait for the KYB AGX's.

The front Koni's use the body of the OEM strut for a foundation. YOu have to cut off the top, empty the oil, trash the piston rod, and then drill a hole in the bottom to secure the new KONI. The stock strut will be no more after that...What's left of the stock is just the structural housing for the KONI.

How are the KYB AGX's supposed to be? They are adjustable like the Koni's right? When are they due out? I think I might go for them since they're direct replacements and I won't have to gut my stock struts to put them in. Aren't they more expensive than the Koni's?

Actually, they are a little cheaper than Koni's. I am not sure, but I think you can adjust them without taking them out too. Koni Front's are easily adjustable from the engine bay but the rears need to be taken out and compressed fully. That's another bonus.

I have a question though for people that put in Koni Fronts:

Q: will the large pipe cutter available at Home Depot and Lowes do the job of cutting the OEM struts? They cost about $25 and say they can handle up to 2 1/8". Not sure if that is big enough... Was going to hack saw them at first but last weekend, was sweating bullets just putting in rear brake pads! Any effort I save is prolly worth it.

If you're having trouble with rear brake pads then I would NOT attempt to do your struts. They are much more diffucult. You should take your car to a good local shop with a good reputation. That's my .02 cents.

Rear brakes were easy, it was just hot! Summer is here and I just figure the more time I save is worth every penny!
