Need Help ASAP! Key Pops Out of Ignition???
Arite guys, please don't kill me but I have a question thats not about my Maxima. Please don't post threads saying "go to the honda forum or something" because it should be a general car question and you guys are the only ones i trust. My girlfriend's 1994 honda accord has a really bad problem where when i start it, it starts up fine when i hold they key in the "start" position, but when i take my hand off of the key after starting, it dies right away as if i turned the key (and the car) back off. as long as i hold the key in the "start" position and rev the engine it stays alive but i know thats really bad for the starter. this also has happened while driving the car doing like 55 mph. the car is driving and all of a sudden the speedometer and rpm gauge both drop down to zero and the clock shuts off and the ABS light comes on and starts flashing. sometimes after a moment it will come back to life but usually it just dies and we can't restart it easily at all. please, any suggestions? just pretend im askin about a maxima!
Sounds electrical to me. Either the switch itself or a relay that should be grabbing and is not. My last Honda dealer experience for intermittent no start would lead me to beleive it will cost 2 grand and they still wont be able to fix it.
i asked a local mechanic who used to work for honda and he said it's probably a bad ignition switch? what do you think? no, the key isn't actually physically popping out of the ignition it just seems like that. like its as if im turning the key off while the car is driving and the amber ABS light comes on
