grease leacking from from axle

I am planning to lower my car this weekend and I saw that I have grease leaking out of the axle shoulder, so I was wondering is it possible to change it yourself, are there how to's or just go to shop and get it done there, and also should I get it fixed first and then do allignment or allignment doest get messed up in the process of doing this?

Thanks

I believe you are referring to the CV boot. If it has been that way for a while, it may be better to just get a new axle. Dirt in the CV joint is not a good thing, and if you have some in there the joint will most likely fail.

Sometimes a rebooted axle will burp a little grease. But look REALLY closely for cuts, tears, or cracks. If that's the case, you need new boots.

I found mine after washing my car after it had been raining for a while. I was like what the heck is on my rim. Then I looked inside and saw the tear on the CV boot.

yes, its a cv boot. if its torn wide open, just get a brand new axle. if not get the boot repaird. should be around 50 bux for a boot. but axle will cost u quite a penny more

Both of my boots have been cracked since February 05. I'll be changing them this week. Here's a good DIY site http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/100

one after another in my 5spd. my passenger side ripped before i noticed it was cracked so i just left it ripped in 2 replacing it this thursday, and just yesterday i noticed i ripped my upper boot on the drivers side. so i need 2 driveshafts, luckily i get everything for 50% off (school discount). It should be a temporary fix to my leaking tranny (diff bearing problem).
