Some new parts today :-D

Very excited toda, DHL delivered the new exhaust this morning....cant wait to start tearing out the old stuff. The muffler going on this is a stillen straight through SS muffler, using the one off my other Max. The exhaust is all from Budget/Lyell, whichever you want to call it now and its polished stainless, as you can see.

The Stillen muffler is gonna sound rreeaallly rice... I have that one on now and it sounds like crap.
With an unresonated bpipe and a straight pipe you're going to want to get a really quiet muffler or else it's gonna be REALLY loud....

I"m used to the sound, I have this same set up on my other maxima, except I have the stock cat on that car, and the test pipe on this one, also this B pipe IS resonated....

I ordered the parts on April 28, and they came today, May 4...but didnt get shipped until Monday, so it was 4 days essentially.

Here is their site for whoever asked:
http://www.lssexhaust.com/

There is more than just noise going on too.... the other parts to be installed are:
Stage 1 tie bar
Poly urethane bushings
stillen slotted sport rotors and pads
short throw shifter
nitrous oxide kit

That's all for a little while, but there will be more on the way!

If you've got a few minutes to spare, could you measure the following for me?

the length of the resonator
the length of the piping that the resonator is on

Reason is because I want a larger resonator on the B-pipe I'm ordering but I don't know how big of one I can get.

Ok, the resonator I have is 15.5" long and the piece that it's on is 29" from flange to flange. Hope that helps.

No problem! I will enjoy it too the quality seems to have improved from them a lot, I bought a Budget Y and B 3 years ago, and the Y did have some noise and it was painted black instead of polished oh so nice, and the B pipe hangs a little low, you can see it when you stand near the car which always bothered me. This new B has been redesigned, better hangar, better welds and better connection for the 2 pieces of the B pipe. I'll get some sound clips up and everything when i get the install going, but college owns me for the next week with finals

Here's a slight update on the install, since I told you guys I'd keep you all posted. I havent had a lot of free time lately, so I appologize for the fact that will will be updated rather slowly. The stock exhaust is all off the car, and the new Y pipe is on, looks soooo much cleaner underneath w/o that awful nasty stock y up next is the short throw shifter, I"m going to try and get that on before the end of the week if time allows for it, and then put the rest of the exhaust on this weekend (test pipe, b pipe and muffler)

Here are the pics of everything so far, and a shot of the engine which I just recently started polishing, but have A LOT more to do still.
Out with the old, I just cut it all out because its going in the trash.

The stock Y...and its replacement

And an engine shot just to throw in

If anyone has an install questions feel free to ask, even though the info is everywhere out there.

Shots of the bottom of the headers with the Y removed, one of the nuts was rusted on so bad the stud came out of the header with it.

Finally, the new Y installed

How did you replace the stud? I'm unfamiliar with the process. I'm going to be doing my ypipe and catback when I get home from college in a week and a half, and want to know just in case.

And by the way, please tell me you had stands under there instead of just that jack on the side?

I had 2 stands on there while doing the install, I just jacked it up real quick to snap a few pics..still should have used a stand in case though.

As far as the stud goes, I got lucky with it, the nut didnt come off of the stud, so it kind of worked like a bolt. The stud is normally threaded on both ends, but the nut acted like the head of the bolt and I just "screwed" it back into the header and it worked out fine. Or, I prob could have heated the stud and tried to get the nut off, and then worked the stud back into the header with a pair of pliers and then put on the Y and then the nut back on like the rest, but my way was easier.

95-96 have the rear O2 in the CAT.
97-99 have the rear O2 in the exhaust piping immediately after the CAT.

Yep that's right. I'll just have to plug the hole in the B pipe for the O2.

Yes it will be, I'll be running the cat on the street and the test pipe with a electric cutout mounted in it at the track, but this car will mostly be used at the track. I started it up with just the stock Y and then with the new Y on. But as I said in the beginning, I am used to this set up except for the test pipe, its the exact same set up as my other Maxima and yes its loud but not to me anymore which means I'm going deaf or just used to it, probably a little of both. I have a Sentra for a daily driver.

Also put on the Blehmco stage 1 tie bar this afternoon, it's the black bar connecting the control arms (for those of you who dont know what/where it is)

Fitment was pretty good, a little hard to get it onto the second control arm but it went on with a little tap of the hammer. The car isnt on the road yet so I have no other feedback, but I'll have more when its up and running. There is a lot more to do still.

why a test pipe? gains for NA aren't almost insignificant and you're harming the environment even more than the gains you're getting from it.

while your under there, you may want to try and treat some of that rust, before it becomes a problem.

The new parts looks good and shinny.

4 reasons:
1) High flow cat = ~200-300
2) Test pipe = $25
3) I run 75-100 shot of nitrous oxide at the track
4) This isnt really going to be a street car nor my daily driver, its for autocross and 1/4 mile

There are also other plans for this car coming down the road, and also in my previous post, I said that I'd have a cat for the street and using the test pipe ONLY while at the track or on the way to it.

That's a very good idea, it was my only gripe with getting this car, it has a fair amount of rust underneath, but thats what you get for the winters we have up here.
