Throw Out Bearing

I had a TO bearing fail and I'm replacing it with a new unit. When I pulled the tranny off tonight I found something strange - One of the clips on the side of the bearing that hold it to the fork lever had broken off, I have never seen that before. I'm not sure why it failed that way.

I also seem to remember a half-circle wire clip being attached to the TO bearing when we pulled it apart the first time last year, but when I went to replace the bearing today I do not see any spring clip at all.

Is there supposed to be a metal half circle spring clip on the TO bearing? And if so, if that was missing could that cause the failure I experienced with the side clip breaking?

Thanks in advance!

The only spring clip I remember is the one holding the fork to the bellhousing. There are the two sheet metal clips on the ends of the t/o bearing and that's it.

when they replaced my clutch recently the same thing happened with my TO bearing. (sighs) the mechanic told me that it was because the last person who did clutch work on it installed it wrong.

dont know if thats why yours snapped, my clutch was crazy ****ed up when they seperated the tranny. and about the clip, if you go to motorvates walk through about changing the clutch i think there is a pic of a clip on the bearing

good luck man

Thanks, that's what I found but I could have sworn there was a spring clip on the bearing - I might just be going crazy though - clutch jobs can do that to you.
