I like Thule and Yakima myself I don't have a preference between the 2. Have you tried RackAttack? The salespeople there actually have a good amount of knowledge.

yakima man...i've been a bike mechanic for about 8 years now, and the yakima is much better quality. The accessory attachments are more durable, the round bars are torsionally stiffer compared w/ thule's rectangular bars. The resale value of yakima is better....i could go on.

I am also yakima certified to install yakima racks.

i had a yakima but then returned it due to the noise of wind resistance, but yakima is my personal preference. look at thule too, because yakima and thule have certain parts that are interchangeable between the two so just get the cheapest of the two, mix and match.

yakima also has better options such as a rack that can extend, making it easier for putting more snowboards on the roof so the bindings wont hit the roof of the car

yak rack

I love my Yakima rack. I use the Q towers (think thats the only option for a maxima). Great for carrying bikes, skis, and misc stuff when moving. Even with a fairing there is a some noise, especially with sunroof open so I don't use it much anymore. The tower pads (part that touches the roof) will leave marks on your paint job from grit getting under them. Best to take the rack off every few months, wash car, clean pads, then reinstall. Then just sell the rack with the car -- the buyer will be happy to have the rack, and you won't have to explain the minor damage to the paint job.
