y pipe install and EGR code 0302
I recently installed a wsp y pipe and today the egr code 0302 pops up. could there be any correlation between the two? I read the haynes manual and it doesnt say much about that code. How do i fix the code?

That is the code explanation and fix information. I SERIOUSLY doubt that they are correlated. All EGR stuff is done in the intake manifold and headers/exhaust manifold in the rear (so I think). Coincidence most likely. The smarter ones on the forum will probably have a better answer.

I had the same code pop up a few days ago. I also have a y-pipe, although it was installed last year sometime. Anyway, one of the EGR-System parts is a valve (four letters, forget the name) that as near as I can tell is supposed to operate when exhaust backpressure gets above a certain amount, thus permitting the EGR valve to open. I'm thinking the reduced exhaust backpressure is no longer sufficient to operate that valve for all the times the ECU thinks it should. Have not figgured out what to do about it yet - I just reset the ECU and so far the code has not come back yet.

The only thing I can think of is that when you remove the oem y-pipe, you also have to remove the O2 sensors and install them onto the new y-pipe. Sometimes the harness trips out and causes a ghost KS code. But for it to trip the EGR trouble code? Not sure how that happened. Maybe its coincidence. Try to reset the ECU and see if it comes back. BTW, did your CEL turn on?

I've been getting the EGR code as well (0302) for over two years. First time, I reset the ECU, went over 1500 miles before it came on again. Now it varies from between 40-500 miles before the check engine light comes on. In fact, I was well over 400 miles today and had to get my PA inspection. Wouldn't you know it, it comes on about a mile from the shop. I pulled over, reset the ECU and the car still failed, because the "system wasn't ready." I've had no noticeable change in performance through everything. Anyone know how long it takes before the sensors become functional again after reset? Also, can you somehow clean/lubricate the EGR valve and accompanying hoses? In fact, where is the EGR on a '98 Maxima SE? Haven't had the time to look for it. Any help would be appreciated, and probably save me a lot of time. LOL, it took me a year to find the PCV valve.

The EGR valve mailorder was about $100 so I would replace it. Mine was all black and gunked up with crud
