cheap rotors?

I need to replace a warped rotor or two, and I see that autozone has valuecraft rotors for $19.99. What's the difference between them and the OEM rotors, and what's the gain of getting drilled/slotted ones over standard. I don't need ultra-performance brakes, or at least I don't think I do...

Other than for racing, is there any reason to do anything but go as cheap as possible?

The quality of the material is different. I suspect the cheap ones are more likely to warp.

IME, the Brembo blank rotors are an excellent quality choice at $50/ea.

i have those same rotors from autozone on my car. they are real bad. my braking distance increased and the pedal feels soft. after 2k miles on these rotors, i just bought RTP/Brembo rotors and am about to put them on. dont buy the autozone ones. u will regret it.

$50 for Brembo blanks? Where?!?!? $20 is way too cheap for rotors, I see PepBoys have them for $32 with 1 yr warranty.

+1 on the blanks, thats what I replaced my stockers with and they are much much better. You'll end up spending more money in the long run using cheap parts. I would check the group deal section for them

Last I checked they were $100/pair from TireRack. But the group buy is definitely a great value.

+1 for tirerack . . . why are the rear more expensive?

I got the slotted Brembos finished in gold, with "duralast" pads from autozone, they stop pretty good but the slotted rotors make some noise and viberation. I would have just gotten blanks but the slotted were on sale at the time.

I'd recommend Brembo, great quality, got mine from tirerack.com

What brake pads do people recommend? Is Autozone's "duralast" breakpads any good?

they work, but I'd spend a few extra and get OEM or hawk pads.

I just happened to be at the store anyway, so i picked em up.

i'd stay away from anything "valuecraft"...i bought RTP slot/dimple for looks and they do look great and brake very nice too.

I'm pretty sure I've been using the duralast rotors and after about 60k miles...they're fine. No warping at all, but I always torque my lugs to 80 ft lbs so i'm sure that has something to do with it. So what does the disc really have to do with stopping? I thought that was all in the brake... I know the vented discs cool off faster preventing brake-fade...but other then that, how does it really affect the braking distance?

This is what i was wondering, i dont think it could make that much difference from one chunk of metal to another...
