95/96 Cali Spec Maxima's...Chime In!

Hey guys I was just sifting thru the forum and saw a thread about being able to tell a maxima from cali to fed spec by the number of O2 connectors by the front valve cover.

I saw this pic of a cali-spec '99 maxima which has 4 connectors:

According to my VIN, my maxima is a cali-spec. I know that the 95/96 is different from the 99. Looking at the number of O2 connectors on my engine pic below, is a cali-spec 95 suppose to have only two O2 connectors? I do have three O2 sensors: two on the stock y-pipe and one after the cat.

I've searched thru the stickies and only found one method of distinguishing between cali and fed specs and that's by the VIN number.

Theres one O2 harness at the front exhaust manifold, another O2 harness next to the firewall to the side of the intake manifold, and the last O2 harness is under the car next to where the cat is.

The 95 has a fed spec and a cali spec, and they do differ. The cali spec 95 is the same as a 96-98. All 96-98 are essentially the same so there is no real cali/fed name. The 95 fed spec has mechanical evap, with the carbon canister where the ABS would be on any other 4th gen. The EVAP and EGR share the same solenoid, and there is no MAP sensor. A 99 cali spec is compleatly different, with electronic evap, swirl valves, and more O2 sensors.

My '95 is a Cali-spec according to my VIN as well, but I never knew there was any difference before '99. It's also weird that it's Cali-spec since the car's entire life has been spent in PA and NJ

Going by what I was told me back in the day, there are minor differences between fed/cali spec 96-98 Maximas, but you should have the same amount of o2 sensors as regular fed spec Maximas.
