Would you buy your 4th Gen again?

I was reading a thread in the 6th Gen forum where a poll was taken that indicated a lot of them in hind sight, wouldn't buy their 6th Gen Max again. Seee link below.

Will you buy another Max

So it got me thinking about polling you guys about how many of you, in hind sight, would buy your 4th again?

anyone who didn't "settle" on a Maxima should be saying "hell yeah"...

this car was the first one i bought becuase it's what i WANTED...not necessarily what would fit into my budget or what was available at the time. the tiniest regret i have is not getting it totally fully-loaded...beyond that, no time machine needed; wouldn't change squat.

Im happy I bought my max but I would have liked the 2002 A4 I almost bought. My parents wouldnt go for the A4 so I went with the max. I am happy with my max and am proud of it. Buying it again would be a whole new situation tho.

hard to say. i didn't get the car new. got it from my parents. it's my first car, so of course i love it more than i should, but to compare it to other cars that were on the market back in the day, not sure. although, my parents had very little trouble with it and even after nearly 10 years, it is goin fine for me. so i'd have to say that yes, it was a good investment and i would probably buy one again.

EDIT: i would change things like int and ext color, but that would be it. i'd stay with the car.

I would prob buy another 4th gen but maybe with a 5spd vlsd trans. One of the best body style they had out for the maximas. The new ones are just too egged shaped but nice engine in it.

My original criteria 9 years ago was a 4-door sedan, somewhat fast, with stick, for $20K-$30K. I think I got exactly what I wanted back then and a good deal.

Going forward I want something sportier, lighter, shorter wheelbase, and with better suspension geometry out of the box. Could still be a 4-door but coupes and converts are in the running too. Used A4, M3's, S2000's, and a bunch of newer cars could all get the nod.

I'd make the trip to california again to buy my 4th gen 5spd. It was a blast!

I had a maxima as my first car (3rd gen), and we've had a lot of maximas in the family...so i was already maxima biased. But no matter how i tired i could not find anything i liked better than the max when i decided to get a new car. As long as i could find a nice 5spd 4th gen SE i was hooked. Unforuneately i could not find any around here, so i made a trip out to cali...but it was soo worth it. Now i'm going mod crazy and its a blast to drive.

But for those who are dreading auto i hear yea...had a 3rd gen auto..getting a 4th gen 5spd is definately worth the effort to find.

I would buy a Maxima again, but not my specific one. I love my car, but there's just some things that I don't want to fix being such an old car. I wasn't there when a deposit was put on my car, my mother went to go test drive it, and said it looked and drove perfect, called me up, and based on that I gave her the ok to put the money down. (I was at work that day, and had been looking for a 5MT Maxima for a while now).
What I found out right when I got to the dealership the next day was that the car was covered in scratches. Previous accident damage also plagues my front end (I'm learning to deal with it now). My trans failed RIGHT when I got the car home, and was in the shop for a month and a half at the dealer getting four replacement transmissions in. (Each one the wholesaler picked up was shtty, and leaked again).
I can't be disappointed with my car, but it is preventing me from taking my car to the next level having a car with the problems I know my car has.
Oh, almost forgot, I've been chasing an idle issue which I beleive to be a vacuum leak since the day I got the car...the engine speed will drop so low when the clutch is engaged that it almost stalls. Something that I would have noticed.

BUT....after all that, I now have a modded 5MT...life is good, and as you can see in my sig, I'm perfecting the paint.

Like some of you have said, I wouldn't get the same one I have now. Now that I know more about my car, specifically 4th gen., I would look for a 5 speed, black, and the list could go on, but i won't.

I originally bought the car thinking i was done modding and tired of spending/wasting my money on car stuff. So i thought i was buying a family car that looked okay and was pleasant to drive.

Once i actually realized that the car was really fun to drive and fairly fast for what it is, the modding addiction caught me again, although not as heavily.
So, i guess i would buy a 4th gen again, because i know more of what i should be looking for.....

Does that make any sense at all, congratulations if you read that whole thing...WOW?!

Yes I would buy another one. I purchased my current 4th gen (97 se) right after my first 4th gen (95 gxe) got totaled.

i orignally wanted a 240sx or 300zx, but my parents wouldnt let me get one at them time..too much insurance for me, considering i was 17, so my dad said i had to get a sedan or a bigger car, not a sports car. i remeber my cousin had a 5th gen a few years back, and then he traded it in for a 6th gen, and ive always just loved their styling. i would defenitely get a 5pd SE if i was to go 4th, but would prob get a 5th gen if i was going to buy one today.

I bought the exact car I wanted down to the options and color, it took me a very long time but knowing how I feel now driving and modding it I would gladly go through the whole process again.

Yes

It has been a great daily driver. No work... no worries (After the coil replacements)

Not into modding the FWD, anthough it has enough giddy up to keep me satsified

BTW: Mods... I cannot post a new Thread for some reason? Whats the deal?

yea I think the 6th gens are saying that sence those new maxes arent as well thought out as the 4th gen as far as exciting looks and cutting edge I think the new ser altima really pulled that off more than the max hence why I was considering one. The 4th gens still hold there time for a good looking 4 door no question. The 6th gen have horrific torque steer which makes it a nightmare to drive its to bad maybe all wheel drive is in the feature, but mark my words the max is a very good car exspesially for the money.

I would buy another 4th gen but not the same one I bought. I stumbled upon my Max in a used car lot. I had always liked maxima's so I kind of made the deal with out even thinking much about it. Little did I know that the engine would blow 6 months later. I would go with a black on black 99 se 5spd with less miles or a 5th gen.

didn't someone do this before? most of us said that we wouldn't buy another max, some of us say that they will...

as for me, I'm gonna move on to bigger and better things... the max was a great intro car to the V6, but I just want more power now...

When my 90 jetta was dyin' on me, i knew what I wanted. Either a 5spd 5.0(which my parents would not want) or a maxima 5spd. In the end, my parents told me to get an auto and for some reason i listened...3 yrs later and a couple of mods, i fell in love with the car. Just 3 days ago, i brought home my new baby, a 1999 5 spd SE BLK on BLK. She needs a little TLC, but no problem, by the end of the summer, she'll be like new....if not better...yeah I got 2 of them right now

Yes

Best car I've ever owned. Love the way it looks and drives. I'll drive it any distance without worrying about it, even after 200k. I just wish my wife drove a stick, then I would have a 5 speed and love it even more!

I would. I originally wanted a 240 but (oddly) couldnt find one. But when I was at the dealership trying to return my crappy 2 day old camry, I saw this Black, tinted, Black leather 4 door car with Maxima on the back, and it was a 5spd. . . I feel in love.

If I bought it again, I would have gotten the dealership to fix the tranny also, that would have saved my $1.6k and I would have much more mods by now.

I'm at my 3rd Maxima, the first one is a 3rd gen SE, the second is a 95 SE auto, and now another 95 SE 5-speed. Need I say more???

Would I?? Oh hell Yeah; I liked my 95SE so much that I bought a 96SE White w/5 speed and gave the 95 auto to my wife. Each car is essentially the same but totally different in feel and indivduality ("personality plusses"). We are both extremely satisfied... and we both ride with confidence in a proven winner! Neither one of us wants anything else...no other year or make.

I would buy another 4th gen, but likely not my specific one. There are things I love about this one, but I'd much rather have a '97+ 5-speed in a nicer color w/ leather.

I would get a 5 speed instead. Drove a 97 5 speed today and it was pretty nice. pulls pretty good in second gear.

I have had two black '96 I-30t's w/ 5 speeds, so I already bought another 4th gen. when my first one was killed in an accident. I also have a 6th gen. black Max that does not WOW me like the 4th gens. The 6 speed "close ratio" stick doesn't feel right, and the turning radius is a joke. Still, nice ride, nice looking car.

Had a 96 for 6 years, planned on keeping it but I just happened to find a 97 with 50k less miles and 5-speed so I got the 97. So yes, I would.

Although several of the new arrivals have me wondering.

I would probably not buy another one again, especially mine. I like my max but probably 5 years down the road I'll get something different.

im with BEJAY, but if I could do it over again with my car I would have told them to take all the options and toss them. no leather, no sunroof, no this and that so to speak.

today life is much different, i would go all out sports car and plan to ! sad the maxima will never be the 97 BMW M3 which was what I was going out to get, price was insane, but I continued with modding to car to try and match the performance level (straight line)

i have no regrets, vq30de is a great car, if only things were a bit different and we got the OOVI and the extra ponies that would have been great. LSD would have been another nice option, and you could keep on going as far as rwd.

could you imagine the 4th Gen Maxima with vq30de-k, rwd, and lsd ? while the car remains a classic to me in the maxima world, that setup would maintain the 4th gen as Ultimate Maxima !
