I have a 97SE and recently the service engine soon light came on. How can i find out what is wrong without bringing my car to nissan? Is there a way i can just reset something? I thought maybe it was because of my y-pipe, but i've had the pipe for 3 months now, would that be the cause?
help! any info is appreciated.

Go read the faq. It will tell you how to find the code to see what the problem is. My code was 0503, something to do with my middle o2 sensor. I think my ypipe caused this problem.

If you have a repair manual, there is instructions in there on how to read the ECU codes, and how to reset it. If you go to the Maxima FAQs there are instructions on how to do it as well.

You will find instructions to do a Diagnostic Trouble Code readout and reset the Check Engine light at:
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

The DTC "translations" are found at:
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html

Further information about some DTCs will be found in the Sticky on this forum titled "ECU Diagnostic Trouble Codes."
