hydraulic hood lift replacements

Hey the hydraulic things that keep my hood up aren't working, where can I buy them, is there anything in the Haynes manual to remove/replace these?

All the local parts stores here charge DOUBLE that. Why, I will never know. Definitely Ebay is the best price.

I got mine on ebay for $32 shipped. I had gotten my second set from Autozone for like $30 a piece!

The installation is simple, just have a friend or a broomstick available to help you hold the hood because that ish is friggin heavy.

have your eBay struts lasted a long time? I was checking this out and I was worried that they were cheap and might have a limited lifespan. Any input would be appreciated.

there was another thread about this that I was looking at recently... a lot of people got them from Checker/Kragen/Schucks, they offer a replacement hood support strut that has lifetime warranty so you can exchange them if they stop working.
here is the link: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=565&ptset=A

I have the same issue. I searched eBay and also looked into OEM replacement (about $80 each IIRC), but the best price I have found so far (with lifetime warranty) is from the site above. You can definitely find cheaper ones on eBay, but if they only last a year, you will have to waste more money on replacements.

I have the same problem and I hate using a wooden stick to hold my hood up. The OEM hood struts were replaced a while ago by generic ones from an auto parts store, but those didn't last long either.

How long do the eBay ones usually last?

Hardware for hood lifts

I'm going to add on to this thread since I'm unable post a new one. I have 1997 Nissan Maxima and I brought replacement hood lifts off of ebay sometime ago. However, they did not come with the the ball screws (or maybe there called something else). Does anyone know where I might find these? I've tried Advance Auto and Pep Boys. Thanks

you have to remove the strut from the ball, using a screwdriver while they still installed on car works great

Mighty-lift

When I bought my 96 maxima back in October 2006, it had the stock hydraulic struts which had gone so the hood wouldn't stay propped. I felt like fixing something and it was the only problem I could find with the car at that time (plus it annoyed the hell outta me having to hold/prop the hood), so I bought the MIGHTY-LIFT hydraulic hood struts from autozone for about 19.99 each. I absolutely love them. They are running 5 months strong now and still work great. After I lift the hood up about a foot or so I just let go and the struts bring it up the rest of the way.

I just bought those last week and put em on, they work great so far. And I like the way the hood opens by iteself after you lift it about a foot.

I bought the same Mighty Lift hood struts for $19.99 each at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. They were easy to install and seem to work great. I've only had them one month, so I don't know how long they will last.

Do you know where to get one? I saw a local oil change place using them before and it was adjustable for length. I'd like to get one for my Maxima and keep around for other cars in the future just in case.

Those Nissan hood struts are terrible. My second set (Nissan) is getting weak, esp. when it's cold. Seems like they last 4 - 5 years on average. My other car (not Nissan) is more than 7 years old and the hood struts are still strong.
