Starting problem
Starting problem
Hi all,
My '97 SE (auto) has ~83k right now. For the last few years, I have this starting problem. Sometimes when the car is in P, it won't start. I put the tranny in N, then it starts fine. This is more frequent when the car is warm (e.g. many times when I do fillup at the gas station and ready to leave, I have to put it in N to start it).
Last year in May, the starter was finally dead. I don't know if that's the original, but it was there when I bought the Max in 2000. However, this starter only last exactly one year and 1 day. Last Monday, it won't start again. Luckily, my mechanic was able to get an exchange. The car started fine for 4 days. Now it is really hesitate to start. When I turn the key, it kind of "choke" for a second, then start.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Not sure. Mine is just dead when it is in P, then if I switch to N, it starts right up.
It is funny as I was reading your post and replying when you reply mine. Anyway, tonight I am going to have the starter replaced free (since it barely hit the 12-months warranty), and I will ask my mechanic to go the grouding as well.
I also came across the Active Tuning grounding kits while I did the search and thinking about getting that as well.

If you want to save money you can make your own kit. I've never seen a wire for the starter on these kits as they are probobly the most important ground on a max.
