Much help needed here. Noticed that one started leaking all over my rims and I am not sure how long this has beenn like this. I would like to replace both. Has anyone ever done this before? Any help would be appreciated.

Raxles.com very good place for axles, excellent people, excellent product.

Removal of the axles is relatively easy.

Driver side:
remove wheel
remove axle nut
remove strut bolts
swing spindle down and to the right
punch axle in, till it comes out the back of the spindle (I mean using a punch not actually punching it. . . )
give it a good tug and axle will come free. . . . make sure there is something underneath the tranny to catch the tranny fluid.

Passenger side is the same except there are three bolts on a metal braket that you'll need to get off. Get under the car and you'll see the bracket. 3 10mm bolts.

about an 1.5hr job.

Best price I found on the net was about $115. My local parts store had refurbished for about $75 ea.

Gonna check out Raxles.com though, Cheers MDeezy!

this may sound dumb. but do you need to drain the tranny fluid?

when you take the CV shaft out of the transaxle, all the oil comes out.

You don't need to drain the tranny, just remember thatit'll drain itself!

4.5pts as well if I remember - that's a big puddle!

NO!! i have replaced tons of these axles.. Their MIGHT be some fluid that will come out but the most iv ever seen was about 1 cup... what i would do is go to autozone and get urself an axle.. they arent the best ones but they are $60 and they have a lifetime guarentee... thats what i would do..

You don't NEED to, a catch can (or tray) would probably suffice.

I drained and re-filled both times. The 2nd time I would have anyway as I put in new redline fluid.

Make sure you do a good job too, speed is good, but not at the price of over looking something and it comes back to bite you down the line. . .

but good speed.

I was told $119.99 for the driver side and $149.99 for the passenger side from raxles.com Plus $34.85 for shipping I think... Total of about ~$300. This seems awfully expensive, and thats not even counting labor costs....
Anyone know anywhere else but autozone where I can get good axles from?

I know raxles are good axles, but is it worth 300 bucks for parts alone?

Autozone
I just had my CV joints replaced about 2 months ago. I paid less than $200 at Autozone for the driver and passenger side after the refund you get for returning the old ones.

I replaced the drivers side with a rebuilt one from parts america and the passenger side about 6 months later with one from Raxles. I ended up replacing drivers side again about 18 months later (exchanged with lifetime warrenty) both have been fine for the last 3 years. I've had friends have out of balance problems with some of the cheap rebuilds.

Just got quoted $538 for two new remanufactured axles and labor. Please let me know what you guys think. Next time, I will do it myself.

Wrong. IME, it's a small fraction of the oil in the tranny. It will depend on if you have the car raised level, or only the front end (raised on an angle), and just how high it's filled. I suggest raising the car level (lift front and rear) and putting a clean pan under the tranny just in case.
