I would get one. Once I replace my axles, I plan to get one.

Never believe and always question what any mechanic tells you.

my alignment was way off after I changed and axle on my 98. I have D2's on the car, not sure if that makes a difference, but my car was unsafe after I changed the axle.

I've done axles many times and the alignment was unaffected. The toe doesn't change since the effective length of the tie-rod is the same before and after, the camber changes a negligible amount (maybe a few hundredths of a degree), and the caster isn't adjustable. Save your money.

I am guessing the reason mine was affected so much was because I took out my camber bolts. I am thinking you guys are changing axles with out taking the camber bolts out.

I felt no difference in the alignment what so ever.

I fortunately have a lifetime alignment so I'd get one anyway. If anyone who have a lifetime alignment and is going to change their axle soon, should get the print out from their alignment and that should be a good piece of evidence as to wheather or not its needed.

Although it is true, toe isnt affected after an axle change (assuming you didnt disconect the outter tie rod from the spindle)

Amen to that. I havent learned that lesson first hand but have ready countless threads where people listened to foolish info from their "mechanic"

My method involves removing the tie-rod end from the spindle. As long as the locknut on the tie-rod is tightened the effective length of the tie-rod is the same before and after the axle is installed.

It's like changing mobil 1 synthetic oil at 3k. Waste of $$$ IMO...

When I began working on Nissans, the first few axles I replaced I would disconnect the tie rod. Found it to be completely unnecessary.

If the axles are replaced, or the struts replaced while retaining the stock springs, an alignment would not be needed. Only if there was a problem before the other work was done would there be a need for a front end alignment.

The reason is simple: there is absolutely no provision to change the caster/camber on a factory strut. The only adjustment is the toe, which will be unaffected by either of the two repairs.

Did you not read anything in this thread? I gave specific reasons why the alignment isn't necessary. Your statement is invalid at this point unless there's some facts to go along with it.
