Tranny Problem???

I was driving about 55 mph and then I had to come to a complete stop really fast. Then when I started to push the pedal to go it just revved the engine then after a few seconds it jolted in gear and went. Any ideas what I need to do to correct? Thanks in advance

By the way I have a 97 automatic

sounds like its slipping. A Flush and refill is a good place to start. If it persists after that a rebuilt maybe in order.

Do you have any codes? I have the same thing, but I have a TPS code, hopefully it will stop when I get a new one installed. Rebuilt sounds expen$ive

my 99 auto did this for a good 6 months, and me being an idiot didnt pay attention to it. finally one night the car went nuts and then stalled. it was towed to ammco and they told me i only had 1st gear. it cost me $2100 to have it rebuilt(which im kickin myself in the nuts for now cause i should have done a 5spd swap), but basically im tryin to tell you GET IT LOOKED AT NOW BEFORE IT GOES!!! ammco and most shops diagnos for free. it is MUCH cheaper to get it fixed before it completely craps out.

other then the revving for a few seconds it sounds somewhat normal. Id get someone knowledgable to drive it and see what they think, untill then, id try to avoid driving it, because it might cause further damage.

probably could, i mean...i got rear brake pads n rotors done too..i figured it cost $200 for that so i subtracted $200 from the grand total of $2300 giving you an estimated $2100 for the rebuild. so it might have been a little less depending on how much the brakes cost me.
