97-99 Rear Conversion (95%) Complete. Pics inside.

My rear went from looking like this (minus rear window spoiler):

to this:

There are a few more on my cardomain page.

The install was pretty easy. Trunk came right off and the new one went right on. I had to use the latch from my original lid for it to secure closed, don't know why, but I made it work. I did the red/clears and cracked the corner of the left taillight and made a small hairline crack in the right taillights. My inserts weren't that great either, but oh well. It was my first time and I think I did an all right job.

The only thing I need to get (but not necessary) is the rear bumper. Mine is pretty beat up, and I didn't 100% need it for the swap. But it'll drive me nuts so I'll change it in the future.

It looks so much better IMO, and it would look even better with a kit and without the spoiler. We shall have to wait and see.

Good job on the swap. Seemed easy, I wish my 5spd swap is that easy, take it off put it on and good to go.

i would keep the spoiler .... it makes the maxima look more aggressive IMO.

nice job though, are you gonna tint the tails or leave it clear?

I did the swap on my 95 as well and agree that it looks much better. But IMO, the 97-99 bumper makes it look much better, it just doesn't seem to flow with the 95-96 bumper. And also, the Stillen rear valances for the 97-99 look much better than the 95-96.

I plan to do the DTM. I think that makes the back look sexy.

Looks so much better. I plan on doing a swap soon myself. How much did the trunk lid cost you?

I know, it's a little off on the left side which is annoying me. Oh well.

Nah, I sold that a long time ago. It just didn't look good on my car.

Cost me $300

A local memeber had totaled his car, and I jumped on the trunk. Not only does it have the shaved lock, but the clear LED in the spoiler also.

Looks good, you don't have too, but I would put on the 97-99 rear bumper too.

That's the plan. I would just like to find one that's already painted and local, that way I'll save some money.

How do you go about lining up the trunks alignment? Is it very tough? How much would a body shop or dealership charge to align a trunk? One of my family's maximas is a has more gap on one side of the trunk, than the other.

The way I see it is that adjusting the two bolts on the hinge will help the alignment.

good job, yeah, took me a few times before I got mine aligned... at least now I know how to align stuff lol

I kept my 95-96 rear bumper.. I find it's mor elegant then the 97-99..

Get the 97-99 bumber. The 95-96 bumper makes the car square looking. the 97-99 bumper will create a flowing transition.

I seriously wonder if we can convert the back of our Maxima into the I30 (the trunk w/ the thing that goes across the trunk and stuff.
