Knock Sensor replacement

I'm just wondering how much it would usually run for if I got it fixed at a shop, can't do it myself because I don't have that kind of time to wait for parts and put my car in a garage, I'm always on the move so I need to know how much is too much to get a knock sensor fixed... thanks all

no I don't have a garage, I have to bring it to my friend's place, I was thinking about just bringing it to Nissan, but I know there are cheaper places to fix it, such as Midas etc...so I just want to get a general price range...

Definitely don't take it to Nissan (or some other place)....they will rob you because they will charge you for the outrageous labor of removing the manifold. This is why everyone takes the initiative of attempting and doing this replacement themselves. It might rip up your hands and everything, but at least it won't be an expensive bill on your part. If you don't want to do it yourself, pay someone who has done it before. I'm sure it would be far less than taking it to the dealer.

I think most places will charge 500-1000, removing the mainfold isnt a cheap task. im going to be replacing my KS this week once i get it in the mail. hopefully my hands will fit.

damn, I don't have that time to put aside because I usually work during the day time, and I don't own a garage... is it THAT expensive to replace a Knock Sensor? 500-1000 bones?

A shop would replace the sensor by removing the manifold, or if there tricky they'd tell you that and reach in the side like the rest of us do and still charge you an arm and a leg.

You dont need a garage, and if you can spare literally 20 mins you can get the KS changed not matter what size your hand is (speaking from experience).

You don't need a garage. You need to make sure the hood will stay up and won't fall on your head, 20 minutes and a beer.

Just make sure the engine is cool, that ish can get mighty hot.

it runs for around 80 bucks on ebay, but if you wanna skip the hassle of waiting for an auction to end it will cost around 120 from a nissan parts site. Try to DIY before taking it to a shop, it's ridiculously easy to do, it's right under the right hand side of the manifold. A shop will take you for a ride if you take it to them cuz they'll INSIST on ripping through the manifold to get to it which is just retarded

ALSO make SURE your KS has actually gone bad by checking for codes, I thought mine went bad and was about to buy one on ebay, but I ran for codes and my KS was good, the problem was really, a combo of bad spark plugs, dirty air filter, and a need for an oil change.

It is easier if you have a standard exaust. If you have the 50 state (California) it is a lot harder.

bought myne from ebay for 74$ with shipping. thats alot cheaper than the 150$ or MORE that the stealership would sell, and i think autozone has it for about 150$ or so.

then alot of places will take off the manifold, but i never did that. i just used a clever extention on a long rachet extention. and then loosened the screw.

magents help so it doesnt fall. but to get your hand there is going to be a pain in the ****... its going to rip your hand up like you wouldnt belive. so have some peroxide and bandiges handy. i had my girlfriend help me out, her hand was small enought to get in there, and even her hand got ripped up, but i couldnt even reach it.

its far better to just replace it because someone will charge you alot of money!

I couldn't get my hand in there without more damage than I was willing to risk. But my 14 year old son could. He got a little ripped up, but no more than I usually get every time I pop a hood. If you've got someone with small hands, it's pretty simple.

okay man do it yourself, it'll **** you off but in the end you'll be happy you do it plus a few battlescars to show off. Took me 6:03 (comp. vs. other orgers), but if you took an hour maybe you could put on some KY jelly and get your hand in there hassle-free..

haha battlescars. and as for beer I harness Heineken or Warsteiner.

I'm just wondering if the Ebay knock sensors are alright, or should I buy from somewhere else? the one on ebay is $64 compared to the $130ish KS, are the ebay ones cheap products?

I don't think O2 sensor is the same thing as Knock sensors laba.

I'm just wondering if anyone has bought the Ebay KS and has installed them...

......ahhhh HUH.... and after ur done u can keep the jelly on huh?.... heh

and all you need is one of those wrenches that twist into angle my mechanic had it and i just borrowed it.... and did it myself... it gets in there nice...

however there was another maxima there at the same time wich had some junk in the way that made it really hard to get to... i forgot what it was.... but i was discussing it with the owner..
