My Clutch Hates the Summer! TO Bearing? HELP.

Hey guys, last summer when i got my car i ran into frustrating problems where after driving for a little bit my clutch almost became inoperable. Now the problem is back this summer as temperatures get hi, so i have a feeling this is heat related.

The car work perfectly and easily slides into gear in the morning or after a long sit. Then after awhile its like the clutch won't disengage fully and is very tough to get it into gear, sometimes hard enough i have to turn off the car to get it into first just to get out of the intersection. If in gear and the clutch is fully pressed it, the car creeps forward. Its very tempermental, maybe a block later the problem is not as bad.

Anyone expirience this? Very frustrating as i don't even want to drive the car when it happens. My original thought after earlier research is the Throw Out bearing. And from what i have found out involves droping the tranny to get to. Anyone have any other ideas of what this can be?

Btw i have fidanza flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 clutch with Pacesetter STS...Thanks!

The clutch is hydrolic (sp), check your master cylider to see if you need to add any fluid to it or change any fluid (normally DOT3 brake fluid), and while your at it check the transmissino fluid, if its really dark, time to flush the tranny. Dirty fluids cause lots of harm in the long run, also have you had a tune up recently?

I have the exact problem, it exists in the winter but not as bad. It gets a little better after I bleed it, but soon returns. My mechanic says it's the master cylinder & has ordered one for me. I don't think it's that hard to change & only costs $85CAD, in the US it should be cheaper.

To work around the issue now, try pumping the clutch a few times, this should build up pressure to get the car in gear. Good luck.

I might try replacing the master cylinder first before i have anything done to the clutch or tranny. Pumping helps sometimes, but there are times when there is no pressure at all.

Thanks 95bluese

I have checked levels and fluid was changed last fall..so that shouldn't be a problem. How hard is master cylinder replacement?

Although it's best to get an experienced mechanic to confirm this diagnosis, I would just buy a new master and slave cylinder and change them.

Does the clutch pedal get really stiff sometimes too? I had the same exact problem with the Exedy stage 1..it ended up being something with the pressure plate and the throw out bearing. Exedy gives you a crappy throw out bearing and i seen quite a few people have problems with it.

Interesting...this could be a possibilty. I might try a new master first, the slave was repalced around 90K. If that doesn't work, looks like i'll be looking at a 5th gen clutch setup

No need to dig into your clutch at this point, just change the master cylinder first. Much cheaper & even it's clutch-related, you'll need a new master cylinder in the near future
